I want to upgrade the RAM in my 2010 unibody Macbook Pro (15" 2.53Ghz model) from its stock 4GB, and am after a little advice as to the best place to source it from. I'm looking to purchase 2x4GB modules.

I seem to recall Mauricio had recently purchased some RAM from his Macbook from Other World Computing, so I was initially looking at purchasing this bundle from them. The price seems pretty good, although I'm still looking for the P&H costs to get the total cost.

My search for a local supplier also turned up a company called Upgradeable, which have this bundle for NZD $210. I can get this posted for as little as $10, so the cost probably works out to be a little more than the US supplier (although not so much that it would dissuade me from ordering from them).

Does anyone else (or you, Mauricio) have any advice, experience, or recommendations they can share WRT macbook RAM upgrades? I'm not 100% down with the hardware specs to look for WRT RAM, but on the surface both of these RAM modules look similar in terms of specs.

The NZ supplier does stress that they specialize in high quality parts, but I generally take claims like that with a pinch of salt. Does anyone have any experience with them and can comment on their claim, one way or the other? Alternatively, are there other suppliers I should be considering for this?

The MacSale website is very good. You enter the Mac version you have (they have screenshots showing where to get this information) and will let you know maximum RAM, model, etc.

Including shipping 4GB for my Mac 2007 was about US$95 so you can figure out (I think). Ordered on Thanksgiving Day and got it here about five days later, so can't complain at all.

Regardless, even with shipping, the prices are bound to be less than what you pay here, I think.

I'm pretty sure that the first URL I offered is the same site, but do you have the URL you used so I can be 100% sure? I entered in www.macsale.com, and that redirected me to a tech support site on the same domain as the one I'd been using.

I estimate the total cost with shipping to be a shade over $170, which seems pretty good. I am wondering, however, whether I'd have better piece of mind going through the NZ retailer. I'd also be helping out the local economy (sort of; it looks like they are a subsidiary of an Aussie company)... and I'd get the RAM a little sooner. Guess I need to decide whether all that is worth the $50 premium. :-)

The address is www.macsales.com (don't forget the 's').

They're great, I bought a SSD from them just before Xmas for my MBP, and the service was good. Very happy with them. Being able to choose the shipping option you want is good too.

Thanks corksta (and Mauricio). That confirms I have the right website. I've decided that the (approx) $50 saving is too good to pass up, and am ordering through them.
