Hi
My wife's laptop is no longer displaying anything worthwhile on the screen when it is opened. you can see the image properly if the lid is only half way open, but that does not make for an easy computer using experience.

Anyone got a spare cable maybe out of a broken laptop or maybe know where to get a spare from for cheap. Checked trademe, but no dice yet.

Model is Compaq Presario C742TU.

Thanks
Paul

Must be defect as I have that exact model in the workshop with the exact same problem.
I am getting a replacement cable from http://www.configraparts.co.nz/
The part has to come from China so they said it would be a couple of weeks before we get it.

I usually get my parts from Empr but they were unable to source this cable for some reason.

This is the part you need:

Yep, thats the one. The cable just gets jammed into a small slot next to the hinge and then goes through the plastic cover on the hinge. its a piss poor design. $50 is not too bad for that cable. Wont buy the one on trademe for $40 then unless it is definitely correct.

Thanks very much for the help and the link.

No worries.

I had a search on TradeMe and it looks like the $40 cable is the one I got originally from EMPR and it doesn't support the webcam.
If you laptop has a webcam then you want the cable from Configra or if you don't need the webcam get the one on TM.

Awesome, thanks very much.
We have the webcam so getting the cable from configra will be the go.
