Hi  I too am experiancing this issue, I have a laptop o.s winxp home sp2 .
I attach the external monitor and boot from scratch ..the external monitor displays my win xp start up untill I have to log in to my profile ..

It then just sits in idle standbye mode ( external monitor) and no image displays ..
I have checked in the control panel / display / settings and tried changing primary etc no joy ??

I have selected extend my desktop view onto this monitor and nothing ..?? the monitor definatly works as I have plugged into another desktop and all good ..

any idea's ..also it it posible to have them setup say as 1 .. 1  like the are running in parralell (Sp?)
admittedly I have not tried the F5 option yet but I feel this will not resolve issue's I'm experinacing .Like the other user I simply want to just be able to watch DVD's etc and be able to manage my work off a bigger monitor .

Idea's feedback / Sugestions welcomed ..

Cheers

if it is displayed as secondary, then just have your Media Player put on it.

But please be aware that many media player when in fullscreen will only support display on the primary monitor.

not the icon.

run windows media player or whatever DVD viewing program you use. and just move the window over to the secondary monitor.

You must make sure your video card can support dual-monitor setup. look at the display properties > setup and enable "extend display to this monitor" on 2nd monitor.
