toshiba satellite m50/S00 notebook laptop returned to store as faulty. laptop has been fixed
i am interested in buying it but it has the following :
no recovery disk and has a user name and password on laptop.
store dont know the password,
i can buy this laptop for a discount but i need to know how to reformat it as i dont have a recovery disk .
my partner has a m60 and i was wondering if i can use that one...will it work ?
or where can i get a recovery disk that suits this laptop,

confused wanting to upgrade my laptop on my very basic budget .
any help

You could ask the store to contact Toshiba New Zealand and ask for a replacement recovery disc. Once they have it then you could purchase it.

Just scratch the contents of this laptop and reinstall from the recovery disc. But I would ask for a very good discount, seeing this is not a brand new laptop anyway.

dick smith have offered it for $200 less than sales price but i am hoping when i go face to face i can
beat them down a few more $'s

i will try to contact Toshibia nz myself as i am sure dick smith will take off any discount if they supply the recovery disc.

is the password the Windows XP login password, or the bios password.

If its the XP one, there are utilities that can reset them...

yes from what i understand ( i have arranged to see the laptop tomorrow at DSE , ) over the phone , the young
salesperson said its the user name and password for the xp part.
i have just looked on ebay for a recovery disk as yet no luck they only send to usa.

i will keep looking , if i can buy and reformat this laptop at the price then i will be a happy kiwi lol

00ps forgot to ask what utility ? or is there a place in akld where i can get someone to do this reformating ?
maybe cheaper than DSE doing it?

The other way is to simply install XP from scratch if you can borrow the media from somewhere since you'll have an XP key sticker on the laptop. You'll have to download the drivers from the Toshiba website which is simple enough, you'll just miss out on a few of the extra freebies that generally come installed on the system and on the recovery CD.
