I tend to avoid laptops, so I need some help in choosing one for business applications. 3 grand is the max budget. GPU and audio processing are low priority. What should I be looking at?

Asus and Toshiba seem to last longest and have decent support driver wise on their websites for longer than Dell and HP in my experience.

Posting on a Dell Latitude E6510.  Nice machine.

Remember with Dell you can always bargain them down in price.  We don't have any commercial relationship with Dell but we got 3 x E6510's about 6 months ago with i7s and 8GB RAM, 3yrs business support for $2000 AUD each (out of our Syd office).

I'm got my suspicions though, that the guy that ordered them would have said something like 'we want to test these with a view to ordering a lot more' :D

[edit: added business support]

I swear by HP Business Laptops. Great on going support. I have an old laptop at least 5 years old and it has full driver support for windows 7 64bit. And it still feels fast...ish (fast for what it is) :-)

I'm not a complete idiot, I still have some parts missing.

Nothing wrong with the HP Probooks in my opinion. Even the basic one - 4520 for around 1k+GST is a good laptop. Why spend 2.5K for a laptop to do emails and spreadsheets on?
