My Acer laptop (5520) does not boot up. Had similar issues last week but managed to get it working eventually (no thanks to Acer Support).

I now have the same issue:

It doesn't boot up - last night managed to get the Use Safe Mode screen - but no further. Next time it was the Startup Repair screen. I started that and then it shut down.

It now powers for a couple of seconds and then powers down and then powers up for a couple of seconds and then powers down and the cycle continues.

I have tried running it from battery only - no difference. I then tried AC power with battery out - no difference.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Sounds like either the BIOS is locked or the motherboard is dead.

I had a similar experience like this a few years back and it was due to the BIOS being "locked" according to the tech. It took a few minutes to reinstall it.

Can you get into BIOS? I have the same laptop and had a similar issue. I could access BIOS but the OS would crap itself when ever it tryed to run.

Mine was due to an incorrect install of Windows 7.

Did a clean install and everything was tickety boo.

If you have backs ups just reinstall.

Can't access BIOS normally.

If I did manage to get to BIOS - how do I upgrade it?

An alternative suggestion (and I could be way off the mark) but are you sure the power supply is working?

My Azus did something similar last year and it ended up being the power supply...battery had just enough power to start things off before it would die again (I assume when the power drain really kicked in). It managed to try to 'power on' about 4 - 5 times over the course of a day before it died completely.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Was the motherboard - deceased.
So not worth paying $650 plus installation for a new one - new laptop-here I come.
Not an Acer though!
