hello there, My laptops mute button light doesn't light up anymore like it used to. The mute function works fine, when I press it it mutes and when I press it again, it unmutes. It's just the light never turns orange when it is muted now. Does anyone know how to fix this? There is currently no colour on the button (F11 button).

I take it you mean the 'quick launch' keys? (if I have the model correct)

I have an older DV9 laptop that does the same thing and has for ages. Tried everything I could find on the net but nothing lasted. Seems a common problem with the DV series.

If you turn off the power and remove the battery for a minute, before putting back together and re-starting, that usually works for a while. Mine's toast now, along with most of the other 'quick launch' buttons. All the functions can be done elsewhere so no loss.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Have you tried reinstalling the HP Quick Launch Software? Every time I've had this problem with my last 3 HP laptops its always solved the problem.
