My work has saddled me with one of these, and I can't connect it to my home WiFi network. It SEES the network, as in this image
networks

but it can't connect to it. My network is WPA/2-PSK, I don't know if there's any significance to the fact that the Acer doesn't report the security type after "Security-enabled network"

I've tried manually entering the settings in Control Panel>Network Connections>Wireless Network Connections>Properies>Wireless Networks>Properties but there I run into  another  problem. When I change the network type to WPA-PSK, I enter my 16-character passphrase, but it simply will not stick. It always reverts to an 8-character key, as in this shot:
passphrase

The shot shows TKIP, but it doesn't matter if the encryption type is AES, same result. I've  turned WPS off in case that made a difference, but it didn't. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be very much appreciated.

And after that make sure your WiFi access point is not applying MAC filtering.

Thank you both for the super prompt replies. I tried updating to SP3, but my bosses have blocked access to Windows Update. I think I shall try persuading the de facto sysadmin to trust me with access so that I can fix this. MAC filtering is already disabled in my router settings.

Thanks again to both of you -a quick regedit to disable Content Advisor, and I was able to install SP3 and get WiFi up and running. Much appreciated
