Ok, so i had vdsl setup up at my house 5 or so months ago. ive had an ongoing issue with weird sync rates and dsl drops for sometimes up to 2 hours with no dsl feed to the modem. so i inspected the install and found that there were wires from the cat3 sticking out of the phone jack so i removed it to have a look and it all basicly fell apart and was a very bad install, so... i complained to telecom and a tech was sent out, the tech turns up inspects the job and says he'll get the guy to come back. so, the other tech turns up around 5pm i explained to him i wasnt happy and that i wanted cat6 installed from where it comes into the house down to the modem, the tech was good and did it without issue. so i thought maybe that would make the line more stable as it had already been over 10 days the "line training" period.
so, this didnt work. so after about another month hoping it would become more stable i rang telecom back and explained everything was still bad, they did more line tests and sent another tech, this has happend another 5 times, techs have changed my port changed the pairs checked all cable from roadside to house and cant find any issues. so i have been reading up and came across some good stuff... now what i have found is, on my router/modem im able to disable UPBO "up stream power backoff"and when i do so and its not comunicating with the DSLAM, it never drops and is stable and i noticed the "power up" and "power down" in the line stats in the router state they are 8.0 db and 8.2 db. now when i enable UPBO again they drop to -6.5 and -6.2 and the line will drop again in a few hours, i have spoken the to complex internet team several times and none of them seem to know what it is, chorus tells me the line stats are ok. 2 dsl drops and 2 ppp drops in 12 hours is within their range and wont send out a tech. and thats fine as im sure the line is fine i think its the DSLAM that is casuing the problem through UPBO yet they have no idea what im talking about and cant help me, i also inquired if i had bitswapping enabled on my profile this they couldnt help me with either. so im stuck chorus cant help and neither can telecom yet without talking to the DSLAM ill never achieve a DLM1 profile, and its driving me insane....
basicly bad UPBO can cause your SNR slowly drop away, and your BER to increase and the feed to drop.
