Anyone having trouble sending email via xtras SMTP server, via authenticated third party email addresses? Get a bounce that says  550 5.7.1 You are not authorized to send as  ####@#######.nz
Has worked for many years, but tonight it has stopped with an error that I am not authenticated. I am guessing it has something to do with their moving away for Yahoo, although there has been zero announcement about this.

It's just one of the many many times xtra email has been down, honestly it's rather pathetic, I really do feel sorry for our clients who use it.

Thanks for that. I didn't even think to check their status page because most of the time companies don't seem to update them.

Our household has 5 xtra email addesses and this is day 4 of one of them being down. Had a quick online chat which verified the outage. This is the third time in as many months and it is always the same email address. I now have it permanently redirected from yahoo.

Frustrating.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Has anyone's mailbox actually been migrated over?

Since yesterday you have been able to check at www.xtramail.co.nz

Keen to find out more about any features of the new system and the webmail/settings interface.

Well wonders will never cease. Had a long conversion (on-line chat) yesterday - my second in 3 days - with Spark Help Desk. I say long because it was taking on average about 6 minutes for her to reply to my end of the conversion. I suggested that she was carrying on several help chats at the same time. She said no and that her chat program kept freezing.

Anyway that aside, I was becoming a little bit annoyed as my email address had been out for 5 days now. But she kept saying that their engineers were working on the overall problem. I then said "perhaps it was time for the Telecommunications Ombudsman to become involved because this was the third time in as may many months that this address had gone off line. Well she immediately created a Job Number. (This was my first.) So I am presuming that my case was being escalated up the chain.

This morning I awoke and low and behold I had ALL my email addresses working.

I wonder what caused this to occur. Coincidence?, my upset tone?, threatening to go to the ombudsman?

Anyway all is working again, for how long I do not know.

Interesting enough I did some checking and found that the email address causing all the grief is the one I had to change post Spark permission to move, as the previous address had become compromised by yahoo before Christmas. All my other email addresses I had given permission to move. So wondering if this was/is the problem.

That does appear to be the problem. The amzing thing is that if you change the server to yahoos, it does again work. Yet their support people don't appear to know this fix, which begs the question as to why, as it has caused people unnecessary inconvenience for days. Not a good look from Spark, I thought these types of problems were behind them.

They won't tell clients to change the server to Yahoo because that will stop working in the future soon.

On the migration checker page they say they will email you one week before the mailbox is to be moved over, so that should give you some notice. Then you should have access to the new interface where you can presumably re-add third party sending addresses.

That doesn't make sense, because has already stopped working. YOu have to use teh yahoo servers to get it working again, at least temporarily.  Although I wouldn't be surprised if they don't allow non xtra email address from accessing the SMTP server, even though they haven't ever said either way . But the fact that it isn't working now is a possible sign of that.

send.xtra.co.nz was redirected from Yahoo to the SMX platform on 2nd Feb. So was mail delivery.

It has nothing to do with whether your account shows on their checker as migrated or not, that will happen in batches in the coming month(s) with one weeks notice.

My guess is on completion of migration, mail messages will become retained only on the SMX system and your account finally becomes decoupled from the Yahoo system with pending deletion of all data stored on the Yahoo system.
