Do I need to return a 4G Wireless modem when a Skinny account is no longer used ?

Skinny's website does not state anything about it (only if its faulty or I cancel within 30 days - which this is neither)

Their online chat dont make things either, when using that and I mentioned that it's no longer required due to the users passing, they wanted nothing to do with it until I sent a death certificate! We don't even have that yet, so how they think they're going to get one is beyond me...... managed to reset the account password (with no help from Skinny) and remove the CC anyway so at least its not being paid for anymore...

Skinny's modems are generally purchased by the customer*, so the customer owns it. If the service is no longer required then you are free to do what you like with it. Some people just deactivate them and throw them away, while others sell them. Second hand asking prices range from $1 to $65 on Trademe.

In my case I gifted my old Skinny modem to my brother, and we transferred the prepaid account to his name. He's now enjoying 4G wireless on his boat (berthed at a marina).

*although Skinny now offers free modems on a 12 month connection term. Either way, once any termination charge is paid, you still own it.

Skinny aren't at all repossessive about the modems they supply. You can grab one for free on the Skinny Jump plan, whether you activate it or not is not followed up, although you probably will because it's the best value broadband available in NZ currently. First 30GB every month is free, then $5 per 30GB block. There's a limit of 5 x $5 blocks per month ($25 for 180GB) but the workaround is to grab a second Jump modem & swap the SIM from that into your original modem - hello, another 30GB free & 5 more 30GB blocks for you.

The Huawei 618 modem is a decent performer, but the Spark Smart Modem 2 is often available - bigger, better, faster. Grab one of those if you can.

Yeah its a Smart Modem 2.

Dunno what to do with it now tho.... unless I can bridge it and use for its wifi.........

That's kinda messed up. Skinny Jump is supposed to be for people who can't afford internet, not people who want the best deal
