My folks are moving, and where they are going there is no fixed line services currently installed, and while fibre would be free to install, I can see already how they'd run it, and it'd ruin the aesthetics of the property, so looking at Skinny wireless.

Now, I already have a Skinny modem from a previous connection with them, so does anyone know if I can sign my folks up with a "BYO" modem ?

Their online forms force you into paying a courier fee for a modem that wont be needed......

If it is a Skinny Approved B818 I assume not? Don’t think you can sign up online tho. You mat need to chat / call them.

It's been some years, but when I needed a short term solution I brought a second hand one and there was a process to transfer it to the new account.

you'll get the modem free on a 12 month plan so why not just go for that?
It will be a Skinny Smart Modem 2 I believe  - so a pretty good modem.

I can't find it on the Skinny site having a brief look, but they used to have instructions on how to bring over a modem from somebody else - you just needed to changed to email address associated with it from memory.

Well, it was a Skinny modem to start with :D All I'd need to do in theory is give them the SIM and my folks CC :D

Yes, could just grab the "new" modem.

Yep, sorry can't find the article but it was pretty much this. Hand over the modem (with SIM), log on to the online portal, change the password and email address, all done. Something similar to that anyway.

From the Skinnny website (it took a bit of digging)...

Are you looking at selling your Skinny Wireless Modem? Or have you just purchased a secondhand Skinny Wireless Modem?

This article will provide as much information as possible for both our sellers and buyers

https://www.skinny.co.nz/help/other-help/selling-skinny-wireless-modem-or-acquired-preowned-one

If the OP gifts his modem to his parents, there is no "setting up" of a new account - you basically just sign it over to them by removing your payment details, changing the email address on the account to theirs, and changing the password (and tell your parents what the new password is).

They log in, input their own payment details and service address, select/buy a plan, and they are away.

No account tied to it, was cancelled a year ago. (After almost getting a lawyer involved.... that was fun)

Will just get them to start afresh and take the new one.
