Hi everyone. I just moved into a new home and was told by telecom that they do not have enough phone lines to connect me. They are spending the next 3 days doing investigation and will come back with answer whether they can find something to connect me (lol) or they will have to dig up the ground(!)
now if its some rural area with no exchange coverage I can understand but its a new house in the middle of Remuera/Greenlane area and plenty of houses around.

Do you guys know how long does it usually take to get a phone line? there are 3 houses recently built in that place so I guess my neighbours will have a nasty house-warming-surprise when they move in as well.

As john has said, there are a lot of people in a similar situation.

Are you able to connect with a different ISP rather than Telecom, eg Vodafone or Orcon?

Doesn't the TSO require a connection to be provided within a certain timeframe? Maybe that's where the "digging" option came from :)

looks like those noobs failed to locate the phone line box for my property (its on the side of the drive way instead of being next to the house)

They gonna have to 'call me back' and reschedule....

Builder said it was telecom who initially installed the box :(

Looks like you're right; I looked it up and there doesn't seem to be anything about timeframes in there. However, it seems like zyo is on the right track now :)

He has no POTS service yet, this is not just a case of the BB cabinet being full, but apparently no copper at all...

Just wanna say that map shows I have got ADSL2+ VDSL+ and blah blah coverage. so I guess capcity wise there should be no problem

Depending on the current work load and what the faults are like in the cable itself. Its not necessary fix in one day. Could be the Last telephone Line that cable but has a majority a lot of faults on it.

So i guess you have to wait

I have known telecom to give people free use of a cellphone - with restrictions - when this happens.

they offered free call diversion to my cellphone though (021). not sure what they meant by free (as do I still have to pay for the phone line rental plus broadband which I cant use)

Self selection bias at work imo.

The thousands of people who move home with no problems getting/transferring their adsl connection pretty much never post on GZ.

Sure there are probably a few exchanges that are maxed out and their is a waitlist but not as many but I don't think it's an "endemic" problem.

No Line/termination capacity seems to be quite common in some areas. There was a town in north Taranaki/Kingcountry that is in the same boat, people moving into the town and setting up a new home are finding they have to either wait for someone to move out of the town or go without a landline because there isnt enough numbers and circuits for new homes.
