I had Telecom broadnband for about 4 years but until last year i was having trouble visiting

www.vodafone.co.nz
www.nzcouriers.co.nz
www.godaddy.com
www.microsoft.com
and many others etc, etc...

Therefore, I had to hire a proxy server to view those websites. Yes - when I used a proxy or a VPN everything is fine except it is slow but if I don't, I can't see many websites. When trying to load those websites without a proxy or VPN, only a blank screen shows up and will eventually time out.

I have talked to their Tier 2 support (Case ID: 21000115) but after a few phone calls and tests (including line test, double checking using their DNS servers etc), nothing has been fixed. Although this issue was not fixed, they have completely ignored me.

I have shifted my home phone and broadband to Vodafone on 25/March/2011 with everything the same setup including the original modem. Those websites now "work"!!!

As they advised, I also suspected if something was wrong in my setup but now it looks like it is certainly a problem from Telecom broadband.

Does anyone here have a simlar problem like mine before?

Well there is not exactly much we can do now to help, but for my last few years with Telecom, I have not had a problem with those sites.

I am able to view the sites you are having difficulty with, but I am finding my Telecom connection to be very slow, both national and international sites.

Tried updating to latest iOS4.3.1, usually get over 700KB's as the file is usually cached, but struggling to obtain any more than around 150KB's - painful when I need to update Iphone and Ipad.

Possibly congestion, but not normally a issue I find on Telecom.

Im also finding it very slow during peak hours as well. Its like clock work though. From 4.30 till 11pm my connection speed is cut significantly.

Are you using the Telecom's own DNS or third party (Open DNS, Google, etc)?

OK, just tried again at 5.04pm and it's back. I am using Telecom's regular DNS.

At the time, I tried the downforeveryoneorjustme site and it said facebook was up, but I still couldn't access the site after 3 or 4 attempts.

I'm having problems connecting to guardian.co.uk (was getting slower and slower looks like it's going to stop completely) and asrtechnica.com is dead again today. In Auckland Central. This is getting annoyingly frequent now. Is there a way I can avoid the useless Telecom proxy?

My brother is in IT and says caching stuff like this never works properly...
I wish it went straight through, though maybe our network in NZ can't handle it.

Well, I've used Tor before when this happened and depressingly it's faster than Telecom. Having said that, I've only been having this problem in the last couple of months. Up until then it was fine, so something has broken somewhere.

It's still not working properly. Very annoying. Takes several times to get to a site sometimes. Tried grooveshark and couldn't get to it until a few tries. Feels clunky at the moment

Wikipedia has been going between totally dead to slightly usable since I signed up with telecom. Sometimes every second link is a connection reset and often the DNS lookup fails (telecom's default dns)
