Had a client on friday loose their DSL sync.
Telecom 2nd level help said there was a firmware upgrade done at the cabinet on friday

Tried two routers supplied by telecom - the thomson tg585 and their old still working dlink 302. Both wont sync up.

Chorus tech came out and confirmed sync and a connection with his ancient Nokia dsl router, tested the line and reckoned everything was okay. Until he remembered - he had another call out around the corner with another customer last week. same issue - after firmware was upgraded on their cabinet, they couldnt sync up with their modem. Reckons Alcatel are outsourced to manage the dslams.

So the chorus tech reckons we should ring telecom and ask for a replacment modem. But i am guesing this is going to be difficult.

He is going to mention the firmware upgrade as the cause of the fault in the chorus ticket.
It seems stupid that they wouldnt test modems they issued against new cabinet firmware.

I am wondering if this has happened to anyone else before and what their outcome was?

Hardware incompatibilities do happen from time to time, do you have any other modem's kicking around you can test with eg: cheap Dynalink RTA1320 or something?

Other than that make sure the ticket stays open and leverage social media to raise the issue too

Thats weird, that is about the same time my connection dropped out. My modem will sync to ADSL2+ speeds but will not establish a ppp connection used to authenticate.

On Monday I changed from HD to Orcon, which should have gone live Tuesday. I didn't receive their modem until today, so I plugged it in and it has the same problem, -so that eliminates devices?

I need to ring Orcon back again tomorrow to tell them their solution of port resetting or whatever they did today didn't work.

I'm not too fussed though, as I am just plain sailing on my Maxnet connection at the mo.
