hehehehe, I gots an open ESN 7400 sitting right here... the person that owns it has a 6255, not totally sure what she is doing with the 7400, but I can find out and if she is keen to flick it on I will let you know.

I still haven't really played much and checked the list of other faults, But I do know someone at Cellect needs to be shot, the DCV-15 desktop charger with pop port is listed as being a compatible accessory with the 6255 and it sooo ain't.

First and formost my gripe is the powering off/power cycling the phone does, essentually I am paying telecom for a service and if the phone is powering off, freezing and other things then they arn't providing the service I'm paying for. I know their argument can be that they can't guarentee signal in all situations etc. And you shouldn't rely on a Cell for mission critical infomation but I really do need my cell on and able to recieve and make calls 24/7.

Isn't that the point of cell phones, to be able to contact someone when they are uncontactable via normal landline means.

All the new cool things they can do are great, but all they are doing is taking bandwith from the critical stuff, p2t and voice requires the room to be there, simple, no 2 min delay on a txt or pix, it needs to be there, and when a phone is powering off, or when a 7400 is going straight to cell sec then something isn't quite right in the basics of cellphone logic, I have no doubt they will sort it, it's just the waiting. As we have all seen Telecom are pretty tight lipped about this one.

Grimlok - i think you will find that both networks state that txts/pxts are a best effort service, and delivery times (or indeed delivery at all) are not guaranteed. :-(

Oggie - I do not work for Telecom, but have very close ties with a number of people who do. I work for a medium-sized telecommunications company. :-) Cheers.

Disenchanted: yep, they do both state that, I was trying to point out was that maybe the limitations of the network are starting to be felt, I know that voice and p2t require instantious connection, where as txt and pix can and do wait for a free moment so to speak to zap thru.

If things like this are starting to happen, as it apears they are, maybe some of the gizmos that in theory have no problems being carried on the network, are causing it to become slightly congested now. There have been several times in the last month or so when txt have been unable to go thru for me personally, and networks have been "down" I just wonder if the pipe is starting to get too small for all the water they are trying to push thru it.

Of course, I could be totally wrong and way off point, and it could just be a couple of firmware issues that need sorting out, but for now some of the things happening all at the same time could be more than coincidence.

I have no problem with delayed txt or any of the other little things that are present, Just that a nokia should stay on to recieve calls, and the 7400 should not divert to cell sec for no aparent reason. (I believe that the 7400 issue has been sorted, just using it as an example).

just a thought, that is all :-)

Sure, id say both networks are being pushed to the limits to obtain good value for money on investments and as higher return for shareholders as possible. The 7400 issue has been sorted, but the same symptom occurs frequently with other 027 phones too, which i beleive is a seperate issue of network capacity (it only happens to me in cities, during business hours). As a Telecom shareholder, I have divided feelings over this :-)

Re: the pipes - no problem, extra capacity coming on all the time (EVDO rolling out, new towers being installed).

Telecom spends $2 million dollars a day upgrading infrastructure. (or around that mark)
BTW: Telecom pays a million dollars a day in tax (thats a publicly known fact).

I dont think you are wrong and way off point at all :-)

And yes, a phone in a coverage area should always be able to recieve calls etc, the telcos should be aiming for that to happen -all- the time (with the exception of Murphys law of course)

:-)

.... no one at all. Sorry to disappoint you. (If you dont understand this, you werent reading the other thread :-))

damn - busted. We were trying to ditch you Reckless...

I submitted the list to a couple of people at Telecom. No one who could force anything to happen though. Hopefully the other people lurking & posting around here did too.

It is likely that the first issue of the unit turning off is the prority, and that could be the only fix for now so they can get the phone (back) to market asap

This fix or a future update could include things from "The list"

This is all just sheer speculation though.

"The List" - its taking on some sort of holy significance at this rate???

Just recieved another replacement Nokia 6255 from MFR for one of my clients, we have had it turned on for the last hour and it is still up.

Fingers crossed, as all the ones I've had so far have powered down within the first hour of being turned on.

The 6255 that I received yesterday as a replacment from MFR has not turned itself off, it has been up and running for over 24 hours.

I rang the client this morning and it is all good, oh yeah, he will check the Fast Forward function for me and let me know.

So they have either fixed the fault or found one that hasn't got the fault.

One down and two to go ........ handsets I mean, I had three at MFR awaiting a fix, now I have only two.
