Timdotz: There need to be plans that suit all groups of users.

I propose the following plans:

$20 for 15GB
$40 for 50GB
$60 for 120GB
$120 for 400GB

It should also be the up to the account holder whether or not the plan has reduced speeds after reaching the limit or $1/GB.

Yes, that those prices are great but only if. That would be a complete shake up of the industry. But I agree with you that should be what the prices ought to be. I don't see Telecom slashing prices in half or more than half overnight.

The more I think about it given the structure any new plan is not possible, they would just leave a gap and walk away. Unless they delete their pro plan or they redo all the plans. Maybe a $60-80 Optus like plan peak and offpeak or withotu offpeak and give the Pro Plan a kick up to maybe 120-150GB but at the same time mark the price up maybe $100-120.

This is the sort of aproach i like.

Also just as a side note to everyone posting:

Please do a little bit of research from other ISP's and the market prices. For instance asking for a 20GB plan for $20 or a 400 GB $120 plan will not get anyone anywhere. Doing this will just clutter the thread and make it less likely some one from Telecom takes in the feedback.

If you look around and your plan is far better than the best market rate, it wont work. 400GB's @ $120 for instance is 30cents per GB. No ISP in the market currently would charge less than $1/GB and even that is pushing it.

Yeah but I thought that the GB is a bit on the little side to silence the critics. The pro plan is already out there for 40GB I think by Telecom.

I think a 20-40GB plan with or without offpeak perhaps 75GB for maybe $70-90 (20-40GB).
Maybe leave the Pro Plan as where it is. No offpeak. Current $80 40GB.
Intro a Elite Pro Plan to 100GB for maybe $150, $1/GB for excess. No offpeak.

Telecom then just adds extra plans for those who would pay for it. Intro a modest peak/offpeak plan for that group. Telecom can come back and say if 75 or whatever offpeak is not enough, we believe it should be, sorry but that minority will jsut have to pay.

I cannot see them introducing a $50 plan again if there is not gonna be a fair user policy. Because it becomes apples vs apples. You are getting FS all the time. The most I can think of is maybe a 10GB plan with 75GB offpeak for $60-65. Dunno. Unless they suddenly become nice and chop their prices for all their plans down - great chance....

FYI the base cost of a adsl port/connection from Telecom wholesale is something like $25/month (can't remember exact numbers) but that's before ISP costs for staff/marketing/support/national and international bandwidth which have to be covered from somewhere.

Remember any possible plan pricing has a steel floor in how low they can go.

Just too expensive, when all we need is a bit more data. Speed isnt a major concern.

Yes, I agree with that. No way we could do that in this household either, we would end up paying almost $200 a month with overages so we would just go somewhere else instead...
I don't want to mind you as a xtra connection is rock solid and reliable..

After bigtime I'm sure we all agree that speed isn't a concern, after all we were shaped during peaktimes anyway on bigtime.
Data is the the key here as most have agreed on this thread.
Capped plans at 100 gig seem to be what most want and would be prepared to pay for.
They won't give you cheap plans with high data caps just the same as there won't be unlimited anymore from telecom so forget all about that.

Anything that is around $1 per gig they may go for IMHO.
I personally would quite happily pay $100 for 100 gig FS/128k or FS/256K quite easily with $1 per gig overages.
128K up sort of shapes your down speed anyway.

Otherwise if you are going to use less than that just go for one of the exising 40gig plans FS/FS.
why pay for 100 gig if you are not going to use it.

Lets just be realistic here, they have said NO MORE UNLIMITED so accept it and try and get something good out of this !

This idea I very much like.

BigTime managed to offer a solid 2mbps 24/7 to all its customers. So curbing us to 256 once we have reached whatever cap we might have would be achievable.

I would make the internet not suited towards downloading, but general browsing and keep games playable. I would be happy with a plan like this. I am not counting on half the suggestions here though. I think we should wait until we hear back from Telecom in their letter over the coming months.

I'm sure general browsing can be covered by any one of Telecom's already offered plans.

How about the account holders who have to cater for their families, or the flatmates who have to ensure none go over the limit? These are the real losers to the loss of Big-time.

BigTime is a dead duck. This has been established.

Unfortunatly, any plan Telecom makes won't suit everyone. However, Telecom can use our input to formulate a BigTime replacement. If a family or a flat requires high speed broadband with data to spare, Telecom probably won't be the best answer you will get in the near future unless their replacement is nearly as good as BigTime was.
