With the removal of Big time it leaves the plan options somewhat limited. I would suggest to Telecom the following

Plan A

30GB uncapped upload/download speed as with the Pro plan , Cost $ 59.95

Overage Customer choice either $2 per GB or slow down to 560kbh

Plan B

No Data cap, uncapped upload/download speed as with the Pro plan, cost $2 per GB

I would suggest telecom bring in plans as follows to replace BT :

a) $1 per gigabyte FS/FS no caps 24/7

b) $1.50 per gigabyte outside the hours of midnight to 7am, free traffic during those hours capped at 100gig a month for the free hours, $1.50 a gig for over the cap, FS/FS

c) 100 gig a month with $2 a gig overages, FS/FS for $69.95 a month.

Some of these have been in place with other ISP's for a while now so must be sustainable.
For example: Xnet has been charging $1.06 a gig for over 2 years now.

Guy's, I think you need to be a little bit more realistic, why would Telecom bring out new plans offering higher data caps at a lower price than their existing ones when there isn't a market pressure from other ISP's to do so?

Data costs real $$$ to the ISP, even though it's priced at GB/s, the only way you get more data for the same price is to cap the gb/s size of the pipe and start having congestion at it's peaks, which is what you see in some off-peak plans from other ISP's with users complaining about their speeds.

Mildly off-topic but food for thought, if you spend more and more time on the internet, using more and more resources, should the price you are paying go up, or down?

I  don't care much about overages as local data - make data from the cache's and local free (for online backups) and I'll be as happy as a pig in mud.

No one is doing this, and It's not feasable to pay $2/GB for online  backups which in our case are going only a few km across town and we were planning on rolling this out across our client base and making them all move to Telecom.

Now it's all sadness, and 1990 internet plans again - nothing special  and I doubt Telecom will bring any other plans out.

They should start by changing the capped speeds to 128kbps

There is competition from the market for $49.95 from slingshot you can get

2GB a night free data (2am to 8am) x 30 days + 25GB cap = 85GB

Add in the additional data costs and you can get 90GB for $59.95, 105GB for $74.95, and 135GB for $109.95 etc etc etc

I would prefer a 100GB or more cap for the same bigtime price with dialup after that. That would shake up the market.

A couple of notes folks: you can "watch" a topic without posting a reply - look for the WATCH button.

Also, this may get to a lot of replies during the week, so if you don't want to receive one email notification per reply, remember to update your profile and change the notification options there - one notification a day, one notification per hour, one notification for every reply, and so on.

Free national traffic won't happen - from memory, last time this was done, it screwed national bandwidth so badly it just about came to a halt.

Paradise used to have a good system a few years ago (no longer offered) where national traffic was 10% of international traffic. ie, you would get 10GB of international, or 100GB of national. That was good times.

Have they hid the 2GB limit of free data in the small print somewhere?

Slingshot website:
Free off-peak means that any data you use between your plans period won’t count towards your monthly data cap. How good is that! This includes absolutely anything that you do on the internet at that time.

$60 = 50GB   FS/FS   -  Over use a choice at signup - changeable by calling the Call Centre  - $2 per gb or slowed to 256/128k or whatever.

Then noone could complain they have been slowed with no option or paid more without knowing.

A list of the top 5 trafficed websites Free of Charge against caps

Youtube
Trademe
Google / Gmail / Apps etc
Facebook
etc

especially YouTube which would kill about 90% of the arguments here anyway and they have a pretty good Cache already so wouldnt cost much if anything more.

That might be enough to keep me with Telecom,  although I am in a stuff them mood and will move ALL my communications to Voda or someone  ( well over $200 per month)  as soon as my bigtime letter arrives.

How about creating a replacement plan only available to existing bit time users of maybe 60gb traffic managed as a good will gesture? even at reduced speed?

TBH i don't want to change ISP's but 20gb will not quite go far enough between the 4 users in our household

And traffic between TelstraClear cable users was free as well. Lots of hours playing games with friends, all of us on TelstraClear cable. Add the 10% national traffic count on Paradise, it wasn't a bad plan...

No there is no actual limit, but that's seems to be about what people are getting. Some can get more, some get less, but the average would be around 2GB a night free off peak.

As I stated in the BigTime removal post, I believe the best idea is having two caps - peak and offpeak.

The experiences I've read about SlingShot I think prove that unlimited offpeak is not sustainable, but a decent cap may work.

They could even offer a range of these dual-capped plans to cater for users different needs.

20GB peak, 60GB off-peak     $60
40GB Peak, 110GB off-peak   $100
80GB peak, 220GB off-peak   $170

Or even better, come up with a price structure that lets the user customise how much peak and off-peak data they want.

EDIT:  "Not sustainable" may be the wrong way to describe SlingShots unlimited off-peak.  It may be sustainable in its current form, but only because the speed is throttled to an almost unusable speed.  (Note: I have no personal experience with SlingShot, I am basing this on what I have read in forums from SlingShot users).
