astrae:

The 'KOR' in the brackets at the end is a giveaway. The CSC (Country sales code) is screwed up, it's set to Korea instead of TNZ (Telecom)

Yeah, that's weird. I rooted the device, backed up the default ROM, installed CM7, fiddled with it a bit, then went back to the backup of the factory ROM.

I downloaded the ICS ROM from the link above and loaded that with success, so I guess that's good enough.

I have had 2 hard crashes since installing this, and also twice I have had it freeze up for a while and then 20-30 seconds later tell me that some arbitary app has crashed - once was dominos ordering (which I havent used for weeks so no idea why it was running) and once it was tweetdeck.

If like me you are having issues with ICS and exchange email when using the stock email app (the 'connection error' issue), I finally found a solution/work-around that works for me anyway...

The issue appears to be read receipt emails - i.e. if I send an email from work and request a read receipt and the recipient agrees to send me one then the email app on android ICS samsung won't sync anymore and keeps stating there is a 'connection error'.  If you are able to go online (or at work) and remove the read receipt email, the 'connection error' goes away.  So the solution (until it is fixed) is to not seek read receipts or have a rule at the server end that puts the read receipts received into a separate folder that is not synced to your phone.

Hope that helps anyway with that issue.  It certainly works for my 'connection error' issue anyway...

Kies not offering a firmware update?

Installed latest version of Kies and it just shows the current firmware version;

Stock telecom S2, not rooted

I have downloaded the firmware from http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9100T

However, I should not have to with a stock device.

Is there a way to install the update manually without rooting and without paying $6 for Odin (which I would probably never use again)

Anyone else experienced this with Kies?

I haven't experienced your Kies issue but it is easy to install the update manually.  Odin is free.  See instructions here: www.theandroidsoul.com/xxlpq/  but instead of using the LPQ firmware version they mention use the one in the link in your post.  When you read it it sounds like a long process, but in reality it is very easy.  Good luck.

After a bit of fiddling around with USB cables last night managed to get keis to see my S2.
It definitely found that I could get a firmware upgrade.

Unfrotunately it refused to install because it said my battery was too low at 33%.  So now I need to wait untill tonight to fully charge my phone before trying again.  what a pain.

Thanks for that! Assessed every step and then finally found the courage to push the start button!

Worked a treat!

Anyone having battery or swype issues on this release? my swype is flashing from alphabet to numpad and back again, non-responsive. Have to change back to the default keyboard.

Seems to be noted on some other forums.
