TVNZ on demand is still broken for me (not that I ever use it). TV3 seems to work OK.

I'm not using unblock us or any similar trickery.

Bahahaha - nobody was supposed to see that ;)

A few of my friends and I were being rebels with trying to be the last standing people on it, it looks like the service has finally died.

Anyway, guess I'll have to start using Jabber more now!

Question for BigPipe:

A bit of background to my query. Been with orcon for ages, was currently off-contract before I tried their VDSL which is currently hooked up at my house. The VDSL speeds are slower than my ADSL speeds, so I called them up and explained my situation and they said they will monitor it for 7-10 days and if ithey are not VDSL speeds, change me back and get me off-contract again.

I signed up for the Bigpipe trial today and got a response already, since it expires in 5 days, it might not be enough time for me to go back to ADSL, become off contract and avoid fees. Do you think I can sign up using that form but pick a specific date (after I am off contract) to get connected with BigPipe.

Thanks!

Hi,

yes you can pick a future date for provisioning.  I think you can pick up to 40 days in the future.

Bear in mind that if your VDSL speeds are poor, and you have had a master filter installed (which with Orcon I believe is part of the deal), then the reason is likely to be down to your distance from the exchange.  So if you are signing up for Bigpipe VDSL we probably won't be all that much different in terms of raw speed.

But we are cheaper by $20 compared to their unlimited plan, so there is that. :D

Hi,

If you haven't had anything at all from us yet then there is probably something a little 'odd' with your address in the Chorus database.

If you flick me a PM with the email address you used to sign up I can chase it up for you.

cheers

I didn't want to, but shortage of ipv4 addresses unfortunately means we have little choice but to use CG-NAT.    ipv4s are like gold dust at the moment.  It doesn't effect most people. (which obviously isn't much consolation if it does effect you)

We'll be looking to implement ipv6 pretty soonish, so we'll be able to do static ipv6 then, but not static ipv4.

ETA:  we'll be adding some stuff to the FAQ about this soon

Okay, thanks heaps! Yeah, I would definitely save some money and also have free internet for a couple of months which is swell! I will upgrade to VDSL once we move to a better house later on in the year. A little hopeful but plans for fibre yet?

Is this potentially why my RDP/http server publishing doesn't work, and why I couldn't sign up for "unblock-us" (error: your IP is already in use)?  I haven't had a chance to look into it yet, and it hasn't been a priority.

That one guy paying for unblock.us has given it to all of us for free. If you're that guy keep paying for it ;)

This is the first issue with unblock-us we have had, I know several people have been using it just fine (including me), but i'll flag it with the techy guys anyway as it seems a plausible explanation. meantime, you can alwasy try one of the many other DNS services out there like unotelly etc

We can give you a public IP address if you want (but not static IP)

If you do, just submit a support form on our website requesting one.
