When i rang up telecom i was told there not forcing people on go large to switch plans since of the $10 increase.

I think anyone switching to this plan should have 0 expectations of having usable internet between 9am-2am. If all you do is watch youtube and download nationally this plan will suit but anything outside of that or non cached then expect bad performance

Same torrent removed and added back, on 10mbit cable, in less than a minute it obtained FS:

Between 9am-2am you'll be lucky to get 180KB/s through FTP as well.

What amuses me is that this plan isn't even mainstream yet so I only expect it to get even worse. In reality this is just go large with a different name, FS/FS and Telecom open about it being "shaped" aka rubbish.

Yeah but I'm gett that at the moment with my current ISP, but being charged $1/GB for the privilage, and all most people do is watch youtube and surf the web.

Well, don't buy it then, it's not like Telecom lied to you, they were straight up and said it would be shapped... Perhaps it's got off to a rough start because the caching cluster had problems and put more load on the bandwidth pool???

Sounds like you need a Telecom Broadband Pro plan!

I have 10mbit cable as my primary connection and had the Adventure plan as my backup. The only reason I changed it to Big Time was out of curiosity so I'll be switching back to Adventure after the 7th.

I know Telecom haven't lied but their "shaping" feels more like rate limiting to me.

At 9am shouldn't that be full speed?
are we likley to get full speeds of torrents overnight?
surfing the net during the day is all I need to do

You can probably expect full speed or close to it between 2am and 9am but between 9am-2am international traffic will be relatively slow which is in line with what people on Go Large currently get.

raab, whould you be able to test torrent and http speed during the night? it would be very interesting to see the results.

~2mbit for torrents during the days sounds very OK to me at the moment :)

First impressions are that this plan is perfect for downloaders!

My internet speed is capping at 200KBps during peak time which is completely acceptable for everyone in this household. I am still leaving downloads active during the day but HTTP traffic has priority on our network so web browsing is unaffected. None of us play online games that require low latency.

I have only been on this plan for nearly 3 days and already gone through 82GB. If these speeds continue it will be possible to easily download over 900GB per month. Looks like I'll need to upgrade the capacity of my server's RAID5 setup if the speeds don't deteriorate next week.

O. None of us play online games that require low latency.

Is the latency particularly bad?

I'm both a gamer AND a leecher so i want the best of both worlds.. Currently I'm on xnet and get crap latency, so unless telecom's is really bad I will probably change but would be nice to know the numbers.

Could you (or oneof you others whos on the plan already) pretty please do a few pings and post the results?

Those are pretty much on par with my current Xnet pings (IE laggy as buggery).

i would be amazed if Telecom let people download that amount every month, will be interested to know if the speeds are maintained when more and more people switch to the plan
