DravidDavid: BigTime is a dead duck. This has been established.
Unfortunatly, any plan Telecom makes won't suit everyone. However, Telecom can use our input to formulate a BigTime replacement. If a family or a flat requires high speed broadband with data to spare, Telecom probably won't be the best answer you will get in the near future unless their replacement is nearly as good as BigTime was.
cafeg: ok, all of you guys that are proposing a 25 to 30 gig data cap?
how much were you actually using on big time ?
if you were using under that why don't you get one of the existing plans which have up to a 40 gig data cap already...
Instead of proposing they make a lesser data cap than is there already on the existing plans ?
If you were using more than 25 to 30 gig then we need bigger data caps..
Your idea of being cut down to 256/256 is getting back to being unlimited again..
When they throttle you its going to be dial up speed :-(
I very much doubt the mass downloading leechers are going to be interested in 256kbps download speed.
Intention of 25 gb is for the main downloading & monthly useage.
Intention of 256k throttle , is to keep webpage loading, games & simple net useage do able.
You dont have to agree with my views / hopes. But being throttled to 64kbps is defeating the purpose of "broadband".
Cant do anything with that.
*My opinion*
kyhwana2: I think there just needs to be bigger caps or a "pay for what you use" in MB/GB blocks.. Xnet is $1.02/GB.. Telecoms $2/GB is ok, although expensive depending on how much you use..

DravidDavid: So you are saying the commerce commission has said Telecom can only provide broadband plans that are capable of a full line speed?
That is down-right stupid if that is true. Capped plans should still exist at full speed. But giving the customer the choice between more speed and less data or more data and less speed would be much more attractive.
I think Tel69 is right. No matter what 99% of us are just going to be disappointed at whatever Telecom come up with (if anything at all) because it won't be close to being as good as BigTime was as far as "bang for your buck"
rayonline:
I dunno, that is what someone said to me on this thread. Well I do recall ISP used to advertise 7.6Mbit but now they just say FS.
They cannot tell you what speed you get from the advertising cos they cannot gaurantee it. Therefore they now just say up to FS. So they cannot charge one group less for say 2Mbit and another group 5Mbit and the other 24Mbit. Maybe that is why we now see FS/128 or FS/FS only ....
Cymro: They are not going to re-launch their entire plan line-up just to accommodate ex-Big Time users when they already have 57% of the market share with their existing plans.
Be realistic, if ISP's in NZ could afford to offer plans at under $1/GB they would already be doing so to build market share, because as you are all saying, you would jump at those plans.
