Big Time is just Go Large relaunched with supposedly better caching and traffic management at the ISP. It's $10 more than Go Large and it's FS/FS ADSL2+ profiles at the exchange instead of FS/128. I can't really see them changing the terms much. I'm sure every ISP already has "fair use" clauses in their terms to cover their behinds.

Anyway Telecom will have projected the numbers for Big Time uptake and would have created an appropriate bandwidth pool that makes enough profit. Remember ISP's buy international bandwidth in Mbit/s or Gbit/s not data in GB.

I think it's positive we now get the choice between unlimited downloads at reduced/variable speeds or per GB at max speed.

.. and this time around they've put the marketing department on a leash and aren't telling everyone and advertising it as super fast amazing blazing speed (like they did with Go Large).

So i can down 15gb a night. So why cant they just increase the caps of the other plans?

Most people use hardly any data and care more about speed and performance, time and time again when you hear about the stats of how much data the average NZ user consumes per month it's in the 1-5GB range.

Something like 90% of the users are doing 1-5GB per month and 10% are doing 40GB+.

The vast majority of the market uses a few websites (trademe, stuff, nz herald, facebook), email and maybe some youtube.

so dose anyone know if they will Acutally turn off golarge tomrow or do we still remain on golarge if so how long do we stay on golarge, people are saying Big time and golarge are using the same ip ranges

I would say you will get a letter with your next bill saying as of the next billing cycle you will be automatically changed to Big Time

There's no plans to get rid of Go Large as of yet.

i cant understand Telecom. As someones said above noone cares about size limits. Its speed and stability and consistancy consumers want. I have a Vodafone 20gb and chew this to pieces but i would forfeit that for higher speeds, especially upload as im an online gamer.
Telecom putting a marketing bandaid on as the networks cant handle giving NZ higher speeds.

Those stats are unreal.. Im still on go-large and barely scrape through with 2gb in a 24hour period. i would be hugely impressed with 15gb a night! Im moving in a couple of weeks so its goodbye go large anyway, looks like big time is a winner.

Yep, that's why I have cable as my primary connection because it's always been consistent and fast any time of day.

Even 20gb doesnt last long a.
Doesnt help the missus downloads pictures and youtube stuff. Plus i think dumping the modems they give you is a good idea. I noticed a speed increase when i used an aftermarket modem compared to the free modem voda give you.

Hmmmm Im currently on Orcon silver with a 50GB datapack (55GB in total) and with a landline that costs me like $129 a month I think. I almost always use it all.. (mostly torrents)

Do I (re) sell my soul to Telecom...? That is the question
