There is already a testing program in place, but nothing is 100%.

Where do you live? Not all areas experienced this problem from what I gather.

This was communicated to staff today::

------------------------------------------------------------

Nokia 6255 Software Upgrade + Memory Card The Nokia 6255 is back from Friday the 17th of June.

Telecom Mobile is relaunching the Nokia 6255 with a 512MB Multimedia Memory Card whilst still retaining the RRP of $699.

Since the hugely successful launch of the Nokia 6255 in April a small number of Nokia 6255 were powering off intermittently. A new software upgrade has been developed to fix this issue and is available from the 13th of June.

------------------------------------------------------------

The bigger memory card is a nice touch too. And no, nothing was mentioned about giving bigger cards to existing users. ('cause I just -know- someone will ask)

I'm all for larger MMC cards but I'm curious about Telecom going against Nokia's official limit for the phone.

The 'official limit' may have been decided upon when large cards were uneconomical/rare/not available?

As long as there is no limitation in the software, then more storage should be an easy thing to approve?

Perhaps the re-write that just happened was a good oppurtunity to deal with the limit, and test larger cards?

Sorry for answering your question with more questions? :-)

Sounds good. So how does one go about getting their software upgraded without the retailer taking the phone away for ages? I also won't be enthusiastic if they give me a new one since I have already customised it excessively (unless they're capable of backup)

The retailer doesnt take your phone away for ages, the repair company does.

Most retailers would send the phone away same day (if you havent missed the last courier run), and would call you the day it comes back).

Your phone will be software upgraded. This should probably be considered a life-changing event for your phone. I would advise you to back up all data on the phone, and be prepared to lose it.

I have never seen data disappear during repair, but I know it does happen to some people.
They dont give any guarantees about retention of data either.

The 6255 is back on the shelves as of this Friday but no stocks have reached as as yet, and we are a Telecom dealer.
I'm still waiting for repairs to the ones I have in at MFR, but have told my customers to expect phone some time next week. Hope MFR can get them upgraded and out the door.

The one I recieved from MFR last week is still up and running. But he can't find the FF function to test it.

I posted the other day about Push To Talk being available on prepaid, but had to pull the thread as Telecom decided to remove the info from the hub and delay the launch. But it will happen, official launch is in two weeks.
But we have someone on a prepaid Sanyo 4920 up and running on it as of today.

I have neighbour with Sanyo 4920 on prepaid. Are you saying that P2T still works but they are not going to advertise it or the service itself doesnt work? I was going to see him this afternoon to set it up.

There is already a thread running about it here.

It has been soft launched, with a full launch in two weeks. It has not been delayed.

There are instructions in that thread on how any customer can activate the service themselves

it's got some kinda of stereo headset profile - not sure if that equals A2DP.

It does however sound pretty good over bluetooth to a pair of bluetake headphones, but the mediaplayer often crashes if a sms arrives (doesn't crash if using wired headphones). - might be fixed in later software.
