plans consisting of $70+ fees are no use to our family.

We simply arent prepared to pay a phonebill of $150 or more just to get phone & internet.

Yep, even worse is that Telecom don't offer naked DSL.

They should make a plan that gives unlimited download with youtube and then some cap for everything else. Out of my whole months usage probaly 80% is from watching youtube videos. And its not like its gonna take heaps of bandwidth as people arnt gonna be downloading videos 24/7

Or they at least need to increase the caps of data they have atm.

For $60 I think they should at least give us 40gb. IF they can afford to run an unlimited plan for $60 where peopel download 100'sgb why cant they double the adventure plan, if not more?

Actually something that would be nice straight away would be, offer Capped speeds on the 40GB plan as an option. So you can select to either have it charge you $2 per GB or switch to 64K, If the 40GB plan was like that I would switch now.

There needs to be regulation. It has not changed in the last 3yrs not a cent. Speed has gone up, newer cables. The GB alloc. has not. The GB unit charge has not, the base plan has not. In the next 3yrs I would not be surprised if 3G still cost $30-40, 10GB still $50.

Like the power / gas people just suck it up ...
Telstra price their stuff like Telecom. Woosh is not far behind.

Internet prices (and telephone) have not changed at all in the 3 or 4yrs. We still have the $40 plans (most ISPs) and the $40, $50 plans. It is out of touch with reality. People youtube, voip, hd streaming, hd voip, online gaming .... Likewise people who use phones, ipads, netbooks, wireless is even more of a rip off.

I am hoping 2 Degrees cut prices off their data plans by 1/3 when they roll their 3G out. Let's be frank. Some people have ditched their landlines and gone to mobile phones. People will again ditch wired internet and go wireless. They can use it on the go and at home. On their phones/ipads, library, cafe, over lunch with people - flickr, gmail etc etc. personal websites. They don't need the fastest deal, the mass needs something workable affordable that meets their lifestyle. Price internet are priced affordable, people would pay more for wireless for the convenience.

Can't really be bothered moving ISP's *again* so would be nice if Telecom came up with some decent plans (I'm quite happy to pay for the gb's that I use - how bout offering something competitive like what Orcon do with their 100/200gb plans?)

At this point in time Orcon seems to be the only one that caters for the heavy downloaders at a reasonable price. $120 for 100gb sounds alright....

What I find amusing is that no ISP's are offering 512/512 etc plans.

Sure they may not be able to rate limit connections at the port under current legislation (? debateable) any more, but there is nothing stopping them from shaping the bandwidth over a line speed connection to any rate that they wish, ie when you go over your data cap and are throttled to 64kbps...

Why not design a leech plan and sell it at a reasonable price 512/512 isnt blazingly fast, but its not that slow and would cater to most households, without a data cap it would be perfect (as if such a thing exists) for leeching. Fully maxxed out in both directions you would be approaching 325GB per month of data, which seems like a reasonable limitation to have on a leech plan. You wouldnt need traffic management (EG Big Time / Go Large style Layer 7 Devices) as the capped throughput of the connection would take care of it for you.

Just be careful how you advertise it, we wouldnt want to see marketing make another technical faux pas.

I think they should keep the plans the same or create larger plan at $100 for 80GB, but when you go over your monthly allowance, cap the speeds to 256K or 128K. 56k is unusable.

While I agree in principle, the problem with slowing your connection to 256K is that you can still download alot on a 256K connection and it would end up with Telecom out of pocket having users who may continue to download GB's of data. 64K or 128K would be the max, but you may end up with the same issue on 128K

Thing is. They managed to do it on BigTime. exept on a 2mbps scale. I can't see how a 256K connection is going to put them out of pocket.

Maybe if they capped you at 256K that is traffic managed after you go over your cap?

I was reading earlier that some of the bigtime users were doing daily biz and personal backups using bigtime to transfer the data..
How much data would have been transferred across the network doing the backups ?
In a month for each user would it have been megabytes or gigabytes or terrabytes ?
