that's a strong possibility as Orcon has unbundled quite a bit of the Tron (it is the city of the future after all

), but I wouldn't have thought it would mean a change from 15Mbps to 9Mbps.

Re: stats on my router. Im a little frustrated with this router... The firmware seems terribly lacking.

your attenuation at ~24dB suggests you should be able to get speeds quite a bit better than the 10Mbps you are syncing at. Possibly up to 20Mbps with luck and a following wind (your speedtest results will be slower than that, but not too much).

Recommend you get a master filter installed - get coffeebaron to do it. He has a geekzone 'special'.

Ill need to check my wiring, and will probably do so in the weekend, but i'm fairly certain there is one already (assuming, master filter == splitter).

There is an alarm in the house, and there is a phone jack labelled ADSL, so im picking there is a splitter installed.

that suggests there is one, however the fact that you could get broadband working (albeit at lower speeds) on a different jackpoint is very odd, as I believe that with a master filter only that one labelled jack point should work for getting DSL, all the others won't.

I agree, that seems odd to me also, unless the other point was also off the splitter, which is what Im thinking is the case. Either way ill hopefully get to the bottom of it and report back.

If it's the Linksys router I'm thinking of it has a bug in the firmware that causes low sync with Chorus Wholesale connections. Try updating the firmware / testing with another router.

No. the low pass filter will still allow DSL sync on the phone side. Around 2Mbit down with crazy attenuation numbers.

The modem will take a long while to negotiate but its obviously recommended to run off the dsl jack

I'd test in the dsl jack before you check anything that was quoted above

Dependig on what side of the park your on you could either be fed from the melvile exchange or a whisper cabinet on the waterford road side - but i think your direct fronthe exchnage and orcon was syncing better cos you were connected to there ucll gear in the exchnage
