Axe: Hi, can someone please answer the questions I have:
1)Is WCDMA the same as UMTS?
2)Why isn't there info about the 2100mhz network on the telecom new network site?
3)If there is 2100mhz in the main centres, will a phone that has 850mhz but not 2100 mhz get reception?
I like the look of the 5800 phone http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_5800_xpressmusic-2537.php but it is either 2100/900 HSDPA or 850/1900mhz hsdpa. What would be best for the telecom network?
And if i were to search at the gsm arena site http://www.gsmarena.com/search.php3 which boxes would i tick to give a list of the phone that will work on the telecom network?
Thanks!

freitasm:varix: Or is it going to be 850 across the whole country, meaning that I will only need to purchase a phone that supports 850 and be good to go?
Correct. And if you are in a contract when the new network comes live you get a free handset - not sure what model, wouldn't expect much but it's something to help people move on.

1.Yes
2.Because they started with the plan of 2100MHz WCDMA in the cities and 850MHz GSM/EDGE everywhere else. They since decided to go fully 850MHz WCDMA instead, but are keeping the 2100MHz setup.
3.Most phones are tri-band and some are quad-band and most will have 2100MHz and 850MHz, if not all.
4. 850MHz/1900MHz.

Lol here he is, ill leave it to freitasm to explain lol.
I didn't write it was only 850MHz. The 2100MHz is there because it was part of the original plan, and they decided to keep it. But the main network will be 850MHz.

w2krules: OK, dumb question time:Thanks in advance.
- VFNZ is 900/2100 WCDMA. As the main Telecom network will be 850, I assume that VFNZ handsets which are 900/2100 will not work on this network?
- Is VFNZ dual band for WDCMA, i.e. does the handset need to be 900/2100? Just asking this because most of the parallel imports are 850/2100.
