sorry your feeling ripped off.

i've had this phone for 2 months more than any new purchaser has. And i've been using "mobile broadband" for all that time, instead of snails pace GPRS. (it really is so much faster).

likewise, just because they got a little more doesn't make what i got any less.

i am feeling rather annoyed at suddenly discovering i can no longer use data on my prepay account :-( but that's a different kind of ripped off. I've ordered a new pda, with wifi, so i expect to not need cdma data so much soon, so i'll live off GPRS until it arrives.

Hmmm Interesting. The Telecom site on Nokia 6255 says 40-80kbps, which to me indicates CDMA 1xRTT, not CDMA 1x EV-DO. And better update it - the memory card is still listed as 32MB.

Prior to my previous post I checked the telecom site and found the same information as you M.
If it is mobile broadband data it is a big step and something that slipped under the radar. As you said the data speed labelled on the site is consistent with 1xRTT not EV-DO but if it is EVDO capable it'd be a great addition to the harrier as the other T3G handsets have 3G capabilities but not the dataspeed seen on the Harrier or the data cards. This is inline with the oft made statement from telecom that their 1x network is already 3g by definition but the T3G branded phones are the sanyos with ptt and video streaming (7400)

The Nokia 6255 does not support EVDO , it is 1x only so the top speed is 153K. Nokia does not have a phone yet that does EVDO. But will not be to far away

congratulations to this thread for making it to 200 posts.

The 6255 is shipping with both the 32mb and 512mb cards in the same box.

The 512mb is MMCplus, i think that could mean faster memory? I havent researched that topic yet... im sure someone here will enlighten me.

I like the shortcut to text messaging - just click the left arrow from the standby screen to be instantly composing...

According to Kingston, the MMC+ is supposed to be faster - but you need a device with a reader/writer that is capable of those speeds, otherwise there's no point

(unlike SD cards, where the device has little or no effect on speeds)

i don't think the nokia is a MMC+ speed device.

That shortcut to txt has always been there. That is if you were saying it was new or part of a software revision.
And it is good to hear that Telecom have gone with the mmc+. I'm also not sure about the phone as taniwhia has pointed out but if you are transfering larger music folders you can do it via a card reader that is MMC+ capable. Good one Telecom.

Still like to have some feedback on if they have only fixed the shutting down only or the other issues aswell. Might have to take my phone in and do revise to find out!

I bought the Nokia 6255 the day after it came on the market. I've had the problem with the phone turning itself off, and also not always hold the settings for the ring tones. Otherwise I'm very happy, it is a brilliant phone.

It was returned to the dealer last Monday, 13th, to be sent back for repair. I had to wait for them to have a loan phone available, which is another story, you buy a top of the line phone and get given a loan phone that doesn't ring, it took another two phones to get one that worked.

I was told it would take 10 to 15 working days for it to be returned. This seems a bit over the top, in fact I would consider it abysmal service if it takes this long to be repaired. Can anyone here give me indication how long the turn around is taking for the 6255 to be returned to customers.

So, as a 6255 owner, what do I do now? Am I going to be told by someone to take it to a dealer? Should I walk into a dealer and ask for a software upgrade? Is our network provider going to tell the users what is going on some time?

Network provider tell the user whats going on? LOL surely you jest, as I'm sure several people here will point out, Telecom at times don't even tell their staff what is happening let alone the public.

Today was the last straw with Telecom as far as I was concerned, First my nokia, then the fibre Data link going down, I rewrote the email 5 times, as the first one was rather abusive and the sort of letter that really isn't going to get a good response, and I have to admit after working in Customer Service and Complaints I know what it's like to be the shot messenger.

In hindsight I should have gone with my first draft, as the response was: (Edited by me cause no one wants to read heaps of rubbish) Yes there was an issue with the fibre link, we are fixing it, sorry, yes there is a small issue with a small number of 6255's we are working on it.

Then at least if I sent my first draft I would have vented some steam over the whole thing.

Of course they were not very forthcomming with my suggestion of a free mmc card and and and a free hr of uncapped DSL either, but you can't blame a guy for trying :-)

TechnoFreak: Sadly, that is and always will be the state with loan phones, The dealer has to shell out for them, not telecom, often in the early days you could get a loan phone on prepay, so there was nothing stopping someone bringing in say a faulty 5120, getting a 5120 loaner then never comming back. (They don't do loaners on pre pay as far as I know now).

They generally just get treated badly by customers, It doesn't make economic sense to have quality loan phones.

I expect MFR will be flooded with 6255s all over the place, not only ones belonging to the public, but yet to be sold models having the firmware upgraded also.

Personally I will sit on mine for a couple of months yet, MFR haven't earned my trust again yet, I want my phone returned with all it's parts!

the fiber data link was 2 unrelated physical damage incidents. hardly telecoms fault i think.

I wouldn't hold your breath while waiting for someone to contact you about the 6255 issues.

I got a phone call from Telecom about a week after I bought the 6255, asking how I liked my new phone, this was before the problem raised it ugly head. But I didn't get one telling me about the problems my new phone might be having.

I had to go to the retailer to find out what was wrong. They were straight up and admitted that there was a software problem.

You will need to go back to your retailer.

On a side issue, has anyone else noticed the crap voice quality that the 027 network has at times. Never had this with 025.

Yeah Dis, I know that, but at the time it did kinda make me see red, Accident on a bridge and a trench digger at 2 totally unrelated locations was what I was told.

BUT it made for a good time to try and a) get a free MMC card, and b) uncapped DSL. Can't blame a guy for trying lol

nokia producing the only bluetooth phone, yet it's bug ridden. complain to nokia.

there aint much telecom can do about farmers who don't read signs, and start digging post holes through fibre cables.
