You should have received an automated email straight away confirming your connection denials that you submitted online. Check your junk folder else it sounds like it did not get submitted.

Thanks.

I will get my friend around to my place tomorrow to sign up using a computer rather than using a phone.

Not a lot of time left to get the half price deal.

Signed my friend up to Skinny BB today using a computer - much easier than using a phone 😀

Received an automated email very quickly.

It seems that using the phone yesterday was complicated by the Skinny 'Ask Gina' popup confusing the signup pages.

Edit: Noted that the proposed connection date is 28 December.... 3 weeks away.... Skinny must be busy!

My first ever AM radio network connection was with a 1MHz AM crystal(OA91) radio receiver.

Signed up my Elderly mother inlaw 3 or so weeks back for a Dec 4th install. The router turned up over a week ago. She waited all day Saturday and only Crickets turned up. I tried to ring and see what happened but they could only talk to her. I will have to wait for the weekend to go over so she can ring them when im there as shes easily flustered when trying to ring an 0800 number and answer questions that might be too much for her to answer.

After signing up about 6 weeks ago for a Dec 9th change over, got a text and email from Enable this morning advising its been switched. Checked with the teens at home and yep, internet died. Son unplugged Slingshot router, plugged in Skinny one and all good to go on wired connections. Will need to do some fiddling when I get home to reconnect the Unifi access point but very impressive stuff.

Can connect to Bosch alarm, can't connect to camera NVR, will most likely just need a reboot, but pretty happy with how smooth the transition happened.

Officially, yes. Technically, no. The Fritz should work if you can set it to use PPoE and no VLAN (with a non-blank alphanumeric username/password) for the WAN.

Just completed an easy connection to Skinny Fibre - using an old Vodafone HG659.
All good, after remembering to log in to the 659 using the Admin login...
Necessary to get at the VLAN & PPoE settings.

I guess the Skinny modem will show up one day.
Anyone believe that it's better than a 659 in any particular way ?

If not, I'll just shelve it as a backup.

Ahh bummer, so they're still creating e-waste by forcing all customers to take the routers. :(

I would normally agree regarding forced routers being e-waste but in my case it was welcome as my old Huawei HG659 was starting to play up after about 3 years of use. For example it would just drop to 100BaseT randomly until I reboot it. I use ISP supplied routers purely as WiFi access points. The new Arcadyan modem has good WiFi performance. On my iPhone for example I was able to speed test at 700Mbps. Can't figure out how turn off the 2.4GHz band yet though 🤔

I was going to use my current/own modem but too be honest the Skinny/Spark/Arcadyan VRV9517 the supplied me is probably better and saves me upgrading. The e-waste is obviously not ideal but hopefully someone will pick up my old modem and use it.

Performance on the VRV9517 is good though, can't fault it, especially for a stock modem.

Same here.... My Huawei HG659 would just drop the 100BaseT randomly requiring a reboot.

In the Smart Modem/router you can turn off a band here... Mine is shown as on...

As I have very good 5GHz WiFi all around my house I usually select 'Forget' in my 2.4GHz WiFi list (mouse right click dropdown) for my laptops and tablets (Windows devices).

Thank you! I didn't realise you had to turn off "band steering" to get the option to turn off 2.4GHz.

Sorry...but a little bit of a rant here. The Saga continues. My Mum in law was due to have a second attempt at installing yesterday 22nd Dec,just in time for Xmas. She waited at home and yet again...no one. Contact Skinny who says Chorus rang her mobile and got someone who said they already have broadband. of course they do...it was the wrong mobile number. You would think they would confirm the address/Customer???? She had this mobile mix up from the start and made sure that the correct number was noted by skinny...which they confirmed and we have an email trail of them confirming. Now because its been missed AGAIN...she has to wait until next week for the install. I have high doubts that that wont probably happen either. What a Mickey Mouse outfit Skinny/chorus are?. We have told her to Cancel the install and go to another provider. She wont be getting 6 months for free, but at least we shouldnt get the comedic hassle of trying to deal with skinny. Rant over.

@ARIKIP unfortunately, it probably doesn't make any difference Skinny vs. another ISP at this point.

It sounds like the source of your pain is mostly Chorus's doing, and my understanding is that no matter which ISP you go to, they will all be at the mercy of Chorus for a new install if you are in their service area. It will probably be exactly the same experience, but you will lose the 6 month free bonus.

Agreed. There is a huge dependency on Chorus during the installation process. In saying that, a lot of providers do have quite mature processes that keep you in the loop throughout the journey.

I’ve never personally done an install with Skinny (I did help a friend do the initial order online) but have experienced both Vodafone’s and Spark… those are awesome in terms of keeping you in the loop (sms and email).

Agree,Chorus will be in the picture no matter who my Mum in Law goes through. It just grates me that twice things have failed and Skinny of course is blaming Chorus and vice versa. Meanwhile a Customer in their 70s is waiting for an Internet connection at her house. Lets perhaps give them one last chance for next week and ill either have a happy ending or more ranting by the end of next week.
