Yes it true,
I have had that from another quality source. It is that persons understanding the only fix has been the power down problem. And there is no other mention of anymore fixes.
So if you haven't had it (like Me) keep your phone.
The opinion was we would be pushing the preverbial up hill to try and get a 512 card out of them as well. So thats another stake through the heart for sticking with Telecom for the many months I waited for this phone and didn't go to 021

I just spent 2 hours listening to music albums having to select tracks, song by song and it is very annoying!

I am quite disappointed at: firstly, Nokia who produced a phone with so many glaring software glitches or as Taniwhia put it on this forum "wouldn't it be better if......" problems.
And secondly Telecom for their slack testing process and then for getting the pros over here and not addressing all the issues. Especially if it is going to take up to 15 DAYS each time they want to patch the phone.

My opinion is we are stuck with what we have and unless we start the market attitude going, that the phone is great but don't buy it as the programming is rubbish. Or nothing will ever be done. End of story!!

I don't think Nokia or Telecom have done their reputations any favours with this phone!!

So if your like me and signed up for 2 years you've got a great piece of hardware, poor programming and even missed out on the 512 card. Bummed out thats for sure!

"So if you haven't had it (like Me) keep your phone."

I would suggest getting it anyway - what if you travel to one of the areas that has had lots of problems - you would kick yourself if it affected you and you had the chance to fix it.

"The opinion was we would be pushing the preverbial up hill to try and get a 512 card out of them as well. So thats another stake through the heart for sticking with Telecom for the many months I waited for this phone and didn't go to 021"

The 512mb card should have no bearing at all. It was never mentioned/offered to initial purchasers, and certainly not as a prezzy for being inconvenienced. You bought the thing in the first place happy with a 32mb card. Its not like you can go back to Shell with a gripe a week later when they start giving out a free carwash with $20 petrol etc etc.

"I just spent 2 hours listening to music albums having to select tracks, song by song and it is very annoying!"

I bet it is - its a pity they didnt fix this!!

"I am quite disappointed at: firstly, Nokia who produced a phone with so many glaring software glitches or as Taniwhia put it "wouldn't it be better if......" problems."

Just about all software systems have -some- glitches. Be glad the unit isnt as big a problem as say, your operating system might be. (note: 'might' :-))

"And secondly Telecom for getting the pros over here and not addressing all the issues. Especially if it is going to take up to 15 DAYS each time they want to patch the phone."

The other issues may have taken a while to fix. May still be being fixed for all we know. The crucial thing was getting an update delivered that actually allows users to use their phones. That was far more important than adding another week or two to fix "wouldnt it be better if....." problems. I think they did the right thing as long as they also address the other issues at a later date.

"My opinion is we are stuck with what we have and unless we start the market attitude going, that the phone is great but don't buy it as the programming is rubbish. Or nothing will ever be done. End of story!!"

If no one buys it, then it is likely no development would be done on it. (Why benefit few/no users?)

"I don't think Nokia or Telecom have done their reputations any favours with this phone!!"

The vast majority of users I know are extremely pleased with the phone. Not to diminish the problems that have been experienced, but they are very specific things. Even knowing what I know now, I would still be happy buying one. The problems still outstanding are of little consequence to myself.

"So if your like me and signed up for 2 years you've got a great piece of hardware, poor programming and even missed out on the 512 card. Bummed out thats for sure!"

If you are really that unhappy with it, I would suggest writing to Telecom with a list of the problems copied from here, and requesting a refund under the consumer guarantees act citing that the unit does not perform all its functions properly. If you go about this the right way, you will probably come away with some success. (Its all about attitude people!!!!).

Then you could either re-sign, and get a unit with the 512mb card, or take up another option.

- Categorically please do not go and make life hard for some poor retail person who doesnt even work directly for Telecom, let alone Nokia. Those guys seem to get a hard time as it is -

If anyone can tell me how to put boxes around quotes from other people, this n00b (me) would appreciate it. (I have tried and failed such a simple thing, and feel so dumb because of it LOL)

Very good reply!

About the boxes, I've coded this feature and there's a button for it in the Admin mode. I have to add a validation to make sure the tags are correct (for example if someone deletes the open or close tags). This will be up soon.

ok dis you obviously are or have simpathy with people on the front desk.

I must mention that they have (as previously stated) in my local telecom shop have always given excellent, polite and as highly skilled service as possible. And I have never been short, sharp, rude or gruff with any of them!!!

I could argue your reply point by point but don't want to turn this thread into a debate. And I haven't the time after spending so much of it trying to be helpful with the fix it suggestions and solutions I produced on this forum. Which you guys said was being monitered or the telecom people here would forward. My previous reply obviously raised the hackles of the telecom employies on this forum.

But the Fact remains this is a GREAT PHONE that was not, programmed well, tested well, or marketed well with the early consumers feeling they have been disadvantaged by a better package offered only a little later.

"I don't think Nokia or Telecom have done their reputations any favours with this phone!!"

We will have to agree to disagree.

This phone could have been so much better so easily!

Just a quick reply to a post on the other page.
We do loan phones for prepaid customers, but we take a $100.00 bond.
Customer gets it back if our loan phone is returned in good condidtion.

you already have their phone - maybe just keep that?
unless your loan phone is nicer than a nokia 6255?

Reckless - we can probably just politely agree to disagree then :-) (Although we probably agree on a few more points than you might think, but someone has to play devils advocate on at least -some- of the points)

I didnt mean to infer that you personally would make life hard for retail staff member, however i often hear of people that do. No I dont work retail, but I oversee people who do.

ok disenchanted thats very ok with me! we don't want to have a falling out over a phone that isnt going to have any effect on the outcome of our lifes. But I am involved in plans, project management, and construction ( my own business) so I get frustrated with things that I don't think are run well. And all I can see is the problems happening over and over. Perhaps I was a bit angry when I posted as I also sent a copy to my friend in Telecom and I have never done that. I infact stear away from the subject when we are together as someone banging on all the time about your work in your private time is a pain. But I could just see that probably all the people with faulty phones already having loaners and an extra day or week to address all the problems would be a better evil than

The phone going back on the market for ?? months
Heaps more sold to patch ( if it comes)
Then another patch
MFR being swamped
Not enough loan phones
more public reaction etc etc

Rather than than getting it right second time. I dunno, maybe I just don't understand the corporate system, doesn't make sense to me, I just know if I design & build your new home or an alteration to your home in that manner you wouldnt be happy with me either, thats for sure!

Have a good day! everyone is sick of my posts by now so I'll keep a low profile for the next few days!!! I know, make it weeks please lol!!

"an extra day or week to address all the problems would be a better evil than"

You are 100% dead right there, but the problem is that the time needed to fix the wishlist items is an unknown. Maybe thats why they didnt do it this time round.

As taniwha said - the absolute most important thing was the turning off problem.

A bit of healthy debate is always fun. I have found the best thing to do if you get wound up is to walk away from the discussion, and either not reply, or just reply with "ok" :-)
(I get wound up lots too LOL)

i am sure the dealer who issues loan phones has the relationship and the smarts to keep track of the serial/esn number so if they had an issue with a loan phone then they could user their relationship with telecom to render the handset useless and recover it.

rendering a handset useless is easy, but just doing that doesnt recover money lost on it.
Its commonplace now to charge prepaid users a bond.

Since I still have my dear old T60c (With the bluetooth adaptor ;), if they let me and I need to take my 6255 in, hopefully I can reinstate that as my loan phone.

they will gladly do so. especially if your t60 is already nammed. they wont need to touch it - just give them the esn number.
