ALTRON: So when do they flip the 4G switch? exact midnight tonight?

People who have a 4G capable device with a 4G SIM who are in 4G coverage will receive a text when the 4G in their area is live. When they receive this they just need to restart their phones to tap into the 4G Network

This might be because of the 4G rolling out tomorrow but is anyone else having data issues on their phone? Like all day my data just goes out intermittently. I couldn't send a text message before it said queued for sending.

Wow, we have to wait a whole month after TC launch. Best get a TC sim tomorrow then.

Yep I found this today. Had to switch 4G off when I was in the wellington CBD. Phone was connected to a LTE site with no data.

The IMEI checker on the Telecom 4G page is broken. Looks like some AJAX is timing out retrieving data from a database.

If I'm correct the service orders that unblock your 4G data will start running from 11pm, so depending on where you are in the queue it will be anywhere after 11pm you'll get the text saying 4G is live and ready. But I think "tomorrow" is a better answer here anyway ;) - I might have to go out and test the 4G network at 3am with some Ingress.

I can't seem to find coverage maps for telecom LTE? Just wondering if Kapiti coast is included in the Wellington region coverage?

I believe they become available once the network launches. I think they start at 11pm tonight from what I read on Stuff. But try tomorrow morning just to be sure.

Hopefully those texts are all queued for after 8am or something, else there might be a few grumpy awake people at 3am :)

I'm in around the area close to the old CIT building - haven't seen anything happen yet when it comes to 4G coverage, i guess it is only being switched on for those close near the Wellington CBD.
