"I can't believe the 1GB plan is still the same cost as it was when I bought our aircard 580's! Must be at least 3-4 years ago. "

yes but now you get up to 6Mb/per second download speeds, same cost..much much better service.

Yes, but also means it goes faster.

Seriously, Telecom... Better data plans, please?

Rubbish! This isn't what I have been waiting for for 1 year. Bugger that! 3GB for 85 dollars. Vodafone offer 6GB for 90! What is the point moving to XT??? Telecom you need to review all your data plans! Who is gonna test drive if it's so damn expensive?

It's probably just me, but I find the Vodafone site impossible to navigate and cannot for the life of me figure out the data plans for mobile phones, which automatically puts me off even bothering to look into it any further. The Telecom table is much much easier to understand at least.

Yeah, that one surprised me as well... I thought 1GB might hit the $30-$40 mark but guess I was just dreaming.

It's funny how everyone has pretty much stated "it's not cheap, so I'm not interested"... I agree a little but I'm hoping the service will be good as I'd rather pay for good service. My iphone performs pretty poorly on Vodafone. At my house on the North Shore, 2G and 3G reception comes and goes. Quite often get calls going straight to voicemail in the CBD, so hoepfully XT will be better.

I will probably wait for the early adopters to test it out first though :-)

I think I will be holding out for a bit longer and see what 2Degrees has.

Data plans stink I was looking at $10-$12 for 1G at least, this makes me want to move back to the UK.
I don't think telecom's network would overload if people had 1GB for a low price and the way I look at it you can either get a little amount of people for a high price or you could make more money by having more people join it for a lower price.

Seems like upgrading the back bone might of been a wast of time for Telecom.

I think many people were expecting XT to revolutionize our rubbish data pricing in NZ and have been rather let down.

Lots of hype and apart from the handsets, thats all it appears to be since the rest has been rather disappointing.

Main problem I have had with vodafones site (another reason I want to change) is that I can never get into my billing info always says that your bill is not ready even through they have text asking for payment.
Have talked to a few people about it but have not gotten anywhere usually they will do for me what I want to do myself and say I will get back to you and never hear anything back.

That's exactly my problem

lol, its amazing how Telecom can upgrade an entire backbone and produce the best cell network in NZ, but could possibly stand to lose customers due to lack of improved pricing options.

I also have to laugh at myself for buying a cell that will only work on Vodafone (didn't do my complete homework), and will be moving regardless now, considering I have been with Telecom since 2001. I was really looking forward to jumping onto the data packages, but I just can't justify the cost, when I have WiFi access almost everywhere I go! Which I can now use on my new Cell or Acer Aspire One.

Bravo

Don't think this has been covered yet, but if you opt for a shared plan and purchase texts and data are they also shared? For example if my fiance and I shared a plan and wanted the 1500 text add-on would that be shared or would we have to buy one add-on per phone?

looking at the new plans (prepay) I would save money switching from vodafone to XT, but the plans are not something I would get super excited about

I believe that Telstra started their 850 network in OZ with higher pricing and reduced it several times to compete, looks like i'll stay on CDMA for a while and await better pricing - was going to upgrade the t-stick and get a couple of phones tomorrow - unfortunately the XT pricing means I would pay more.
