well i got my phone back this afternoon. the powering off issue has been fixed! the media player still has an error with FF. but only if you try it several times in a row. otherwise its good. but i fast forward music anyway so no problem for me!

All the other probs i had have been sorted....
- bluetooth
- application installation
- MMS receiving etc.

however MFR lost my memory card!!!!!! not at all happy. the dealer rang them up and was told they'd never seen it, so they going to fix me up with a 512mb card and compensation for lost ringtones etc. so happy ending

I cant stress this enough people - only send items to MFR that need fixing. I.e. not your cards, chargers, cases etc etc. This happens all too often from what I hear.

Hi all. I know the phone has issues that everyone could see that more work, money and time could improve things ten fold. But you need to look at it from the big picture.

- Does everyone want to wait six more months rather than have it now with a few bugs
- who do you think going to pay for the extra work -- passed onto the customer.
- By the time we all wait to get this phone perfect it's going to be old and dated

So it is a risk that sometimes they get wrong , give it to the people now and hope you have found all the issues

As all the problems are software related and these phones are now like mini computers , debugging and fault finding every aspect is near impossible. Microsoft and Mac and Linux have been releasing bug fixes on there software for years, but if we all waited for them to make it perfect under ever scenario, we would all still be using DOS

I must say i am perfectly happy with phone now.

According to my phone the new software is vers N100V1700.nep and was built 3-6-05 which is only 2 weeks after Disenchanted created this thread, i guess they got ont that problem quite quickly.

Something i found of interest the powering off problem was not limited to N.Z, many US customers also suffering

Also two very new nokia cdma's

I have just been told that MFR are replacing 32MB cards with 512MB cards upon application of the software upgrade.

how realiable is your source? a 512MB card would be worth doing it the long way.

Are you sure about the MMC cards? Considering mine came back minus the card. The dealer gave me a free 512Mb card today so its all good.

I do have one problem, i cannot write data onto the MMC card directly via PC Suite-- Phone explorer or the music transfer program, but have to send one file at a time to the phone the move to card. I put my 32mb card in and dont have this problem. It comes up with an error about a problem with names??? Not sure what it means.

Any help or ideas appreciated

my source put his money where his mouth is and directly told me, some non-telecom people and an entire Telecom corporate sales team that this will be done for the customers if the phones are sent in.

Perhaps you have to format this card? It sounds like it's formatted on a format that does not recognise long names, like the old FAT. You can format by using a digital camera (not sure if the phone has a format option - others can probably tell).

Well, I took my phone to a Telecom shop here in Hamilton, and got a decidedly luke-warm response. “Are you sure yours is switching itself off”. “Can you produce proof of purchase?” We need you to fill out this long form for a warranty claim, with lots of “we will charge you $xx if we find nothing wrong” clauses.

I did not have proof of purchase, as my phone was bought for me by my daughter in Wellington, and this seemed to be a problem, but “the person who handles these matters is out, so he will call you later if you need to produce proof”.

I expressed surprise that there was any question of purchase date for such a recently released phone, but there was no response.

I await either a call, or my phone returning some time.
