tonyhughes: Im quite happy. Looking at our corporate plan, the shared option is gonna work out way better for out voice and data bills. One of my users has 3 data devices!.

The data isn't shared though is it? Freitasm said earlier it is only voice minutes.

EDIT: Being able to share a data bundle across a handset SIM and a data only SIM in a USB modem etc would be great Telecom :-)

profrink: I hope that like most other countries you are able to purchase another bundle of text/data if you run out during the month...

From Telecom's twitter page:

"there is a per mb charge if you went over" (in response to "Data-will it just charge you for the next rate up, or a per mb charge after, if you went over?")

Its a shame that these new plans dont compete with the likes of you choose 60, txter, talker plans etc. I am on a $40 month plan with Vodafone, I also like to take advantage of the $1/10mb data charge. Heres a quick comparison on pricing for my situation (alot of people will be in the same boat as I know that alot of Aucklanders, 18-25 year olds like/use the $40/month plans)

Vodafone
1 free BestMate
600 TXTs to any NZ mobile
60 national anytime minutes = $39.95

XT
One rate 50 = $29.95
Additional minutes = $5.80
Txt 600 = $12.00
Favourites = $6.00
Total = $53.75

So for roughly the same services on XT I would have to pay $13.80 that is pure BS. Why bother rolling out a new network if your not even going to be competitive on post paid accounts. The only benefit i really see for my situation is that Telecom favourites offers 3 numbers in comparison to Vodafone (not that useful when all your mates are on Vodafone) which only offers 1

Also another point that has been mentioned is why go onto XT if you are only going to be using voice / txt services. This argument is BS. While XT will offer nation wide 3g coverage if they only target data users then they will miss out on alot of potential customers who use their mobile for voice/txt only. XT needs a strong foundation of plans that offer every day kiwis great deals, I mean what percentage of NZ actually use broadband on their mobile?

All in all very disappointing

Dont forget, that if XT bombs, in terms of users & revenue, they will respond to market very quickly. They will not let this investment be written off.

So.... if you dont like it.... dont sign up!!

:o)

It's not $20/month, it's just $20 whenever you decide to top up. You get $5 of bonus credit so you then have $25 to spend on "extras" or calls at 89c/minute (works out to 71.2c/min if you factor in the bonus credit).

Has anyone seen how often you need to top up? I'm assuming that it's once per year.

My understanding is that it's $6 PER favourite, but you can have up to 3 favourites (ie for $18/mth). I'm happy to stand corrected, but having just read the fine print on this one for myself, this is my understanding.

Hitting the target, missing the point: The percentage of NZ using broadband on their mobile will increase, which is further enabled by the release of this network. It's the way of the future! ;-)

Exactly and mine's got a top up of another 10 minutes after re-signing with them for another 2 years :) Rock on 2degrees with their better pricing hopefully!

Did you take in account the per second billing after first minute?

There's a good point... Does this apply to the included minutes, ie if I make a call for 2 minutes and 15 seconds I have 47 minutes and 45 seconds left? Or does this only apply after I've used up all my whole minutes? Was working on whole minutes in my head...

per second billing after the first minute also apply to included minutes which means you get alot more use out of your minutes.

Anyone know if the data plans come with "insurance" like Vodafone's, where you pay $10 to double up the cap?

I know I've posted this question already, but it seems to have got lost in all this excitement/discussions.

Cheers.

This is not for included minutes on either network. You are still seriously short changed with included minutes since these are rounded up to the next minute.

No, it didn't get lost. I've sent this to Telecom and I am waiting for a reply...
