Telecom rang back and said the results of my line test were good. Green all the way, no yellows.

I asked if this would show if any faults in household wiring and he said yes, that it showed line quality from modem to exchange so if issue with wiring in house noise would have shown up.

Weather the same now as when it played up yesterday after 12. Been no drop outs and modem would be going longer then what it was when dropping out.

I know you have all told me it's wiring, but then when on phone with telecom representive they say they would be able to detect faulty house wiring from their end. He even said yellow was still ok with test, but green is real good.

They're carrying on running test for another 24 hours anyway, so see what happens.

With previous thread it was only dropping out now and then with new modem, but become a lot more frequent recently.

With being rare ports fail at exchange, lost internet completely just under 2 years ago, port failure, within 4 to 5 months same thing happened again, so not that rare, plus the earthquakes can't be good for electronics.

I told the telecom people on the phone your advice, and yes i'm interested, but if the isp thinks there's no need to send someone out what can i do. They're the ones to send someone out and they're refusing saying there's no need.

I trust the company that handles customers complaints problems trains their stuff correctly.

Do as advised previously. Once master splitter is installed then any further disconnections will be traced back to exchange or cabinet and fixed by Chorus.

You really would benefit from a master splitter. As well as reducing house wiring as a potential cause of drop outs, you will definitely gain improved speed out of your line - I got an extra 3Mb/s out of mine simply by doing this one thing (and that's even ignoring that the Chorus tech sellotaped the filter to the primary outlet). If you have wiring and maintenance insurance, you may even be able to get the install done free.

Mate, is your desktop/laptop/or anything else directly plugged into your router when these 'drop outs' occur?
i.e. are you sure its not a wifi problem such as dodgy interferring cordless phones in your house using the same 2.4 and/or 5.8 mhz band or even the neighbours cordless phones causing channel interference?

How many phone outlets in your house, is there a monitored alarm (or formerly monitored)?
In your reference to quakes, has anyone actually check any of the wiring to your house and inside the house at all to make sure everything is sweet?
Do you have wiring and maint service with telecom? (only a few bucks a month)

When you say DSL keeps dropping, can you see this from the lights on the modem itself?
How many others in the house using the same connection and accesing wi-fi? Any patterns on dropouts vs people using?

Master filter will help (but wont help if your problem is wi-fi related)
Shop around if you cant get one for free / subisdised.

It all started happening after i changed to their $99 150 gig plan, was on $105 120 gig plan before that.

If it was wiring wouldn't it play up all the time, not 1 hour of not being able to hold a connection, and then fine for 4 hours up to two days?

You'd be surprised at how wiring faults behave. If theres a loose termination/break/joint then anyones guess when it will be fine vs poked. (with regards to wind, your house frame contracting and expanding, moisture etc).

The dsl light (broadband light on thompson) goes out.

Flash's for just under a minute and then goes solid again. Also my ip address changes.

Go into settings on modem and there's lost frames, fec errors what ever they are.

No alarms, only two jack points in house. If wifi interence, that would just cause device not to be able to talk to thompson, not cause entire internet to drop out surely.

There's no one on phone and no incoming phone calls.

I started another thread, someone out tomorrow, so hopefully all a bad memory after tomorrow.

If master filter doesn't fix it, i'll quit the internet, don't need phone line and save $100 a month.

Downer here now.

Says because I'm only using one jack point don't need a master filter.

They sent him out as a full broadband install! What a mess.

He was going to replace the cable coming into the house, and then found a corroded joint and said that might be the problem. So replaced that.

Said there will be no charge for what he did, so see how it goes

You maybe only using one jack point but what about the rest of the telephone wiring?

If that one jack point only has the cable running in from the road attached to it then they are correct, Ask them to check?

He's been and gone, so see how goes.

Only one other jack point in house connected to telecom.

Had over 4 years with same wiring and trouble free broadband, so it's more likely it's just the one part gone wrong.

He's gone now, so it's just wait and see.

You know I really do need to agree with John. Why bother asking for advice if you're just going to ignore it? Everyone suggested a master filter because they are proven to work - it doesn't matter how many jackpoints you have, the master filter will improve your internet experience. And if it solved your problem, it would have been no charge no less.

So the house has 2 jack points then? This is what we have been trying to point out all along it does not matter if nothing is plugged into the other jack point just the wiring alone is enough to cause issues and not get the best speed possible,

This is why we have advised to get a master splitter installed more than once

And i got someone out to get a master filter installed. It wasn't me that said not needed, it was the guy that came out.

I got him out to install a master filter, just as advised so I was taking advice from this thread.

Master splitter installed.

It dropped out twice after 1.00, he got told what I wanted to get done and did it.

Only thing I don't get is same jack for phone and internet, thought it would create second jack.

I use to hear cracking on phone when on it, where now it's dead quiet.
