Well at least the connection was labelled

From memory, it wasn't labelled with anything useful, and as you can see, the pair it's taped to isn't connected to anything. #fail

I moved into my new house recently and the tap in the sink didn't work properly.

This is terrible and shocking from Watercare. I can't believe they are allowed to get away with not inspecting every single tap in each house and making sure the washer in the tap is perfect.

Outraged and shocked I tell you. How dare they.

When you move 3 times in 21 months (out of choice) and every house has telephone line issues you'd be a tad pissed off. Especially when you spend the money on getting something done for it and ultimately its the landlords or next tenants gain.

Hopefully one day New Zealand will no-longer be a 2nd-world country. But then it has major transport, infrastructure and affordability issues to deal with before broadband :).

I have used phone lines that are over 50 years old (in houses that are over 400 years old) that have better connectivity than what I get here in modern Auckland!

Of course, I understand your frustration. It's not like I haven't make a bit of a muppet of myself too.

freitasm: VDSL is not being deployed because (as Steve posted in another topic) it requires a master filter, it uses a more expensive modem, and needs the wiring to be in good to perfect conditions. All these would add a $500 cost to installation.

Do you think home owners are up to spend $500 to make their houses good enough for broadband?

I saw this thread last night, and was going to reply but then saw others already saying "look at wiring" and "check master filter is installed" so decided to stay away. But reality is that home owners have no idea those things impact broadband performance, and instead rather go around saying to friends, coworkers stuff like "I got into a new house and now have [any ISP here] and they are appaling" when in fact they should first get things fixed inside the house.

We have so many topics of "I have terrible speeds" that end up being "I have been using Speedtest to a Belgium server, testing over WiFi, on a house with no master filter and ten phones jacks. I didn't know this could impact speed..." that is beyond a joke now.

My suggestion? Contact CoffeeBaron (Fraser) here on Geekzone and get him to install filter, redo the wiring and then see how it goes.

Just a suggestion, but could the sticky thread over in NZ Broadband "Are you experiencing poor ADSL connect rates or disconnections?" either be updated or replaced with a new thread? It talks about using plug in filters.

sounds like you really aren't enjoying it here, maybe time to move (out of choice) for a 4th time hopefully to a first world country that can appease you.

NZ is a great country to live in - despite the frustrations over transport, infrastructure and broadband I wouldn't change it for anything. The good news is that with a bit of vision and wisdom, things can can be done to deal with those issues.

Maybe make it a tick box statement before you post your broadband issues in any of the ISP based forums?

Prob a bit tricky but seems to be at least 1 a day at the moment

The installer run out of insulation tape so he put the paper there to stop the orange/red wire touching the other wires

Sadly nothing to report yet, I emailed pl at Telecom - hoping he can get to my issue soon.

Each time I've tried to phone Telecom there is at least an hours wait.

I was talking to others at one of the bus stops near my house in Northcote and a few of them said that they are having exactly the same issues as me and what I've described above.

Just get the master filter installed. Phone wiring is not an essential service so landlords have no obligation to sort it.

Never heard of a landlord having a problem with wiring being improved, so long as it was removed at the end of tennancy in the case of cat-5's under the house.
