Nate001: Does this include VDSL launch?

I hope so, but doubt it.

Includes vdsl. Telecom confirmed via Twitter.

Do you have ink to tweet? I understood vdsl will not be launching for some months.

Will be interesting to see how they handle UFB since apparantly a phone number is inexplicably required for their billing system to work properly. Unless they are also planning on forcing a phoneline on UFB customers as they do on their ADSL customers currently.

That was 9 March though, before any ufb plans would be announced. Argh.. cmon Telecom.. give us vdsl. I'm sure there would be more prospective vdsl customers than fibre?

We are currently working with Telecom to have a live chat through our #geekzone IRC channel. One of their tech guys will be available to answer questions. Once we confirm date and time (most likely this Thursday) I will post here and email all New Zealand users about it.

When we confirm this we will also be able to accept questions before the event starts.

Seems my fibre estimation has been pushed back a whole year.

+1 on the vdsl train.

chevrolux: This will be awesome. People are finally going to hear about VDSL. Advertising is something the small ISPs lack so people dont get to hear the awesomeness that is available.

And I hope Telecom give it a big push. Most people don't know it exists, especially small business owners who could really do with the extra speed as more services go to the cloud.

'coming soon' does not mean 'confirmed launch date at the same time as fibre'

All youve done here is gone and got peoples hopes up that Telecom will be launching VDSL tomorrow when they have said no such thing.

Folks, as above... This is UFB as in FIBER, not DSL technologies.

I'm *just* outside of the newly installed ducts in my neighbourhood. I wonder if I could run a long lead from the next street over, where there are two tails installed into a reserve...

And all this time I thought it was Fibre... But what would I know Laughing

Wait and see at the end of the week to see what's announced. Smile

The initial target of UFB is for hospitals and schools.

Looking at the map on chorus.co.nz, even the 3 year map stops 500m short of Wellington Regional Hospital in Newtown, and Newtown school.

Is there a reason for this?
