sbiddle: That's assuming LTE is coming soon, which isn't what I've been hearing.

I don't have any insider knowledge; I'm just going by the Telecom site which still says "by October 2013". Wait and see, I guess!

Wade: As per above post i have just changed to new plan and retained my $20/1gb data pack addon...

$59 for 300min, unlimited texts, & 2gb data = happy Telecom customer

Mmm might have a chat to them soon.
I'm at month 16 or 17 of 24 month contract.  So might see if i can change to the $49 and keep my 1gig data (which means i get more text and 250megs more data as well).

My contract expires today. There's been a note on the calendar for some time to change to an Open plan tomorrow. Perfect timing.

Looks like then old $29 / month open plans have gone so the cheapest you can get is now $39 / month.

Prepay may be more attractive to people ..

Well just talked to them and tried to get the $49 + keep my $20 1gig and they said no can't be done.

So after saying that i will just buy out the contract (only 160) and shop around they will email me back after seeing if it can be done.

You can change to the $49 plan and keep your 1GB data add on with out effecting your contract term. As mention in here this has been the case for many people. Just talk to 123 and get them to action it on your mobile for you.

Not what they told me, they said i could only add 1 of the new ones if i changed plans.
i.e. the 500meg or the 1.5gig with the $49 plan.

I could not have the $49 + 1gig $20 as the 1gig plan is now "old" and not sold.

this is what i was told over the chat system with them under contact us on telecom.co.nz

But after I said i would look at just buying the contract out and start to shop around they would email me later.

jeeg: Kinda disappointed that they no longer offer a $39 plan on contract for subsidy.

I'm a lite user so all the bandwidth aren't really important to me. Looks like I'll be buying my next phone outright and stay on the $19 prepaid or I'll be moving to back Vodafone.

Why not consider the $19 on account and use the interest free payments to break the cost of your phone over 12 months? :)

Totally, also what I recommend to most people is to get a second Smart One Bill Account, one for the deferred payments for the phone and another for your "actual" phone number. This way you can change plans for your phone number without concern it may trigger the account and get the full payment against your account. That's how we purchased my wife's iPhone 4S when it got released, and how I am now paying for my Samsung S4.

If it's "old" and unsold, why is it listed here as being available for the new plan? The page has been updated with the new Ultra plans.

ETA: The 1GB extra hasn't actually been available for a while, but is still listed as available to add according to that page!

I think that is a mistake that has not been fixed.

I will wait till they come back and see what they say

Hasn't been fixed? They've only JUST updated the page to add the new plans. I think the web team need to be supplied with better info from Marketing ;-)
