BigHammer: Apparently it's not a requirement to install the RJ45 jackpoint? I think you'll find a huge number of installations have utilised existing BT jacks and some have new BT jacks installed. I think there is/was a shortage of the RJ45 jacks. Based on comments on Geekzone and from a couple of Chorus techs.

On 06/08/13 a reminder notification entitled "VDSL Provisioning – processes and requirements clarification" was sent from Chorus to all service companies and amongst other requirements was the following paragraph:
All VDSL connection and wiring orders require the installation of:
• A VDSL splitter
• A dedicated DSL RJ45 jack for the VDSL modem
• Cat 6 cabling from the DSL leg of the splitter to the dedicated RJ 45 jack
• Connection of the legacy wiring to the phone line of the splitter
My team at Telecom escalate all instances where we have identified that this process has not been followed, and in all such cases we are instructing Chorus to re-dispatch the tech to finish the job to the specifications above. This is the only way we can ensure that our customers are getting the service they are paying for.

BigHammer: All the tech did at my home was replace the old ADSL master splitter. This seems common.

BigHammer: Absolutely. Telecom needs to understand that the Chorus installers don't seem to care about the requirements. There have been comments and queries regarding this in various VDSL threads here. After initially being told the installation would include the RJ45 jack and CAT6 cable, you can imagine my surprise when the tech said the old '6 way' cable and BT were fine and he wouldn't replace them. Other Geekzoners have had the same. It would then extend that we're not the only customers to be duped by Chorus. It seems they're after the quickest job possible to supply service, whatever the actual requirements are. I'd be concerned too if I was Telecom!

BigHammer: The Chorus contractor that installed the splitter here was also from visionstream.
I dare say Telecom probably aren't impressed!
