We are getting 25 down and 6 up at our office. Our first couple of clients to move to VDSL are betting 30 down 9 up and 50 down 10 up (they must be virtually sitting on top of the cabinet).

I am concerned if you still have an inline filter (as per photo) plugged into your VDSL modem. If so, this means that the technician has not installed an RJ45 jackpoint which is a requirement for all Telecom VDSL installs. If he had installed an RJ45, the inline splitter would not fit into the jackpoint.

If he has not installed an RJ45, I assume he also hasn't installed a master filter, or Cat5/6 wiring between the two. These are mandatory elements for every Telecom VDSL connection.

Please PM me with your landline and contact mobile numbers to discuss further as we may need to get the tech back out to do the job he was paid for.

Apparently it's not a requirement to install the RJ45 jackpoint? I think you'll find a huge number of installations have utilised existing BT jacks and some have new BT jacks installed. I think there is/was a shortage of the RJ45 jacks. Based on comments on Geekzone and from a couple of Chorus techs.

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

On 06/08/13 a reminder notification entitled "VDSL Provisioning – processes and requirements clarification" was sent from Chorus to all service companies and amongst other requirements was the following paragraph:

All VDSL connection and wiring orders require the installation of:
• A VDSL splitter
• A dedicated DSL RJ45 jack for the VDSL modem
• Cat 6 cabling from the DSL leg of the splitter to the dedicated RJ 45 jack
• Connection of the legacy wiring to the phone line of the splitter

My team at Telecom escalate all instances where we have identified that this process has not been followed, and in all such cases we are instructing Chorus to re-dispatch the tech to finish the job to the specifications above. This is the only way we can ensure that our customers are getting the service they are paying for.

All the tech did at my home was replace the old ADSL master splitter. This seems common.

talking with my installers, and through with the faults...

including him ringing chorus provisioning for clarification, was told that since a place is a rental, no cables should be ran.. unless demanded, this strikes me as rather odd and conflicting to the notification you have posted. (which out of the two, your sounds more accurate.)

talking with the tech that is going to rerun my 049 and have a order for my line from the ETP to the jack, he kept saying it will be CAT5..

(this is visionstream im dealing with incase it matters).

is there any published chorus documents that state exactly what they need to be doing with a vdsl install? ild love to be able to actually bring out the printed paper stating they need to do X when arguing that their installation is not up to standard.

Common doesn't mean necessarily mean correct and is naturally concerning if technicians are not completing jobs as we expect based on what they tell us, both in terms of what we pay them for and how we trouble shoot these connections. End customers may also be getting a lower level of service than is possible which is disappointing since that is why we request this setup and why customers pay their $99 for it.

Absolutely. Telecom needs to understand that the Chorus installers don't seem to care about the requirements. There have been comments and queries regarding this in various VDSL threads here. After initially being told the installation would include the RJ45 jack and CAT6 cable, you can imagine my surprise when the tech said the old '6 way' cable and BT were fine and he wouldn't replace them. Other Geekzoners have had the same. It would then extend that we're not the only customers to be duped by Chorus. It seems they're after the quickest job possible to supply service, whatever the actual requirements are. I'd be concerned too if I was Telecom!

in my situation alone, the concern even goes down to, are jobs actually being organized correctly?

for me, my vdsl installation, the installing chorus (visionstream) tech wasnt vdsl trained, and so he had no clue what he was actually doing appart from i need to install splitter. i need to install rj45 jack.

when it comes to time for the tech to come back out and fix his badly done installation, truth me told, he cant. no surprise there, rightfully, hes not trained in vdsl..

this isnt an isolated case for me iver, fault i had a month or so back at the old place, once again, tech wasn't vdsl trained. he couldn't conduct tests and work out that, what turned out to be a very simple case of a line card reboot was the necessary actions to take.

there seems to be two very big issues with jobs carried out by chorus (once again i can only really speak for visionstream), being their workmanship on a job, and their organization of jobs... two very key things if you ask me..

ild have to go and find the quote again, but there was a thread that alluded to visionstream being pretty screwed in their contracting agreements thus they can only really afford 20 mins on each job to be paid for..

reading into that myself comparing to how my job was done, and seeing others, i see that as, the techs are well aware of this, and try to pull a fast one whenever possible..

suppose this is where subcontracting really falls to the point of, they cant be relied on..

How does the above discussed process work when you are in an inner city apartment?
The chorus tech would not be able to run cat6 up to the apartment he would have to utilize the existing wiring yes?
