VDSL speeds?

Hi,
Just had VDSL connected here in Parawai Rd, Thames and I'm getting:

Down - 22Mbs
Up - 9.5Mbs

What are other people getting?

On ADSL I was getting 12Mbs down, 1Mbs up.

how about providing some line stats? giving your adsl speeds means nothing really..

if you have a fritz, a specturm would be handy for pointing out if things look about right

your speeds will be a reasonably direct correlation from your distance, or moreso identifiable by your line attenuation.

assuming you have a fritzbox modem (the vdsl modem snap ship)

login to your fritzbox (http://fritz.box/ should take you there. - default password being 'admin')

click dsl then you should be on 'DSL Information' .. click dsl again take a screenshot of this page

click on Spectrum and take a screenshot of that too.

post both shots here and we will be able to tell you more..

It says Line attenuation

Up - 39.6dB

Down - 15.3dB

ah, a telecom one nvm the steps i laid out then

15.3db, that would have put you right on the 10.8db limit, so boardline you getting a connection.

given that.. ild proberly expect slightly faster, but not by much. remember, boardline you even getting vdsl.

i take it a splitter was installed by chorus?

how long has your connection been installed for? DLM is properly due to increase your line a tad.

Splitter already on phone line in. Not sure if the Chorus guy changed it for his own . Would he need to?

just to make sure we arent confusing things here, did the chorus guy come, and do his wiring? installing a black box somewhere (preferably under your house or inside the ETP and ran a fresh cable for the connection - this is part of the installation for a vdsl install.)

the way you say splitter on phone line in, sounds like your referring to a inline filter..

Yes sorry , I meant to say inline filter . The Chorus guy did come. He's done no new wiring but then maybe everything here was sufficient for him. The whole data cabinet was done only a few months ago. Should he have put in a special filter ? I'm pretty sure he didn't change it.

He "should" have put a "master splitter" in the phone line wiring. This will prevent the need for those little "filters" that you plug into your phone jacks. Also Master Splitters - along with fresh wiring will usually lower your line attenuation and increase your connection's stability, especially with VDSL as it's a lot more sensitive.

If you have a POTS line a master filter is mandatory and there is no need for plug in filters.

If you don't have POTS a master filter is essential if you have more than 1 jackpoint wired for the phone. If there is no master filter the modem should be plugged directly from the demark.

when you say data cabinet, is that to say your place is wired up to a central point professionally? and there is one jack-point specified for dsl?

or are you referring to the roadside cabinet?

sounds like iver you have had your house all wired up in a star layout (inwhich there should really be a filtered point for dsl) or the tech did not do his job correctly..

as sbiddle has stated, a master filter is mandatory for vdsl with POTS(standard telephone line)

when you say inline filter, you are referring to one of these?

if you are, then no, its not alright for vdsl, even in a star, there should be a "dsl" output from the star or even filtered before the star at the ETP.

if im not mistaken, an inline filter will actually be harmful to the amount of spectrum your modem can access, and thus reducing your speeds.
