reven: would only be interested if the streaming was free.

i would love to listen to pandora etc in my car but mobile data is way to expensive to do that every day.

for now im using google play music and syncing to my phone, but real streaming services offer way more variety.

so if telecom/spark zero rated this data, i would switch from vodafone.

I would be truly surprised if Telecom zero-rated the Spotify data; I think the inclusion of something for no additional money that otherwise costs $13 (and it's the same product, as mentioned above) is an excellent deal in itself. To also expect Telecom to provide the data for that product free is asking a bit much, IMHO.

This doesn't take away from the mixed messages Telecom's sending as to which plans it's provided with and the various permutations therein (including possible incentives to change to a lower-cost plan. Nor does it deal with the poor data cap provided with these lower-cost plans (this is common across all carriers - many, included myself with 2 Degrees, have pointed out in other threads that we would prefer more data as opposed to additional minutes.) 500MB doesn't got far, and will get spread even more thinly if using it for Spotify. That said, given it's the Premium service, the option is always there to download over wifi and save to the device - this is how I currently operate anyway.

Personally, I'd save money by shifting from 2 Degrees and cancelling our current Spotify account (the princely sum of $3 a month!), but would lose carryover data/minutes but gain free wifi (not sure how much I'd use this, given the scarcity of them in PN). Horses for courses, I guess...

I dont believe they will zero rate the data, but thats what it would take for me to switch.

i wouldnt go as far as to say including spotify is an "excellent deal" and no its not even close to a "game changer".  personally i rather have to pay for a music service but have zero rated data for it.

i dont think this will make many people switch.

It would be great to have this as an add-on via Telecom on the $39 plan that is less than the normal $12.99 cost.

Plus I'd like to see the data zero rated.

Had this been announced for the $39 plan I would have switched from 2Degrees today. Would have been enough to make me give up my carry over data & mins.

Bummer.

NzBeagle: Can't understand that logic at all. Do they want people to go to the Prepay plan? $39 plan at least?!

If I was being extremely cynical,  I would assume that the Telecom Retail management has targets around Prepaid ARPU and Postpaid ARPU, but not overall mobile ARPU.

Encouraging customers to move from the cheapest postpaid plan ($39) to the most expensive prepaid plan ($29) raises the ARPU of both postpaid AND prepaid, even though overall ARPU will be lower.

Hmm I can see that way of thinking.

Data use shouldn't be too much of a problem as music files are around 8-10 MB each. Also you can download and store your favourite music with Spotify for playback offline. You can do this over WiFi so no date use on mobile network.

lol at all the people wanting Zero-Rated data for this, in addition to the free Spotify Premium. Stop being so greedy.

Thanks Telecom :D

It is pretty clear to me the incentive on the $29 prepaid plan is to get that extra $10 from the people who are currently on the $19 prepaid plan, most of which probably wont use the extra minutes.

Feels great to be excluded for paying $49 a month on their mobile.

It's quite clear to me they care more about the Prepaid customers than pay per month customers.

Yeah I know right! Spent 2 years paying $69 a month dropped to $39 a month I think and now (finally) a bonus, and I'm not entitled...

Prepay looks much more attractive, or 2 degrees ;)

Spotify have been signing up telcos world wide.

The telecom deal is a good one compared to some other foreign plans.

good deal i reckon

shame i already have a spotify premium (and the service rocks btw) - but I do wonder if the telecom work ph will qualify?

zero rating data is imo not a real issue - given you can dl over wifi up to 10,000 songs in total, split over 3 devices to stream offline....
