sbiddle: 65ms is to a server in Sydney, it could never have been 5ms.

Before the DLM change you would have likely been seeing ~51ms to Sydney and you've now got an extra 14ms RTT with the 8ms interleaving.

Your traffic also has to get from Christchurch to Auckland before it can travel to Sydney.

Uhh by reading the OP it looks like he isn't commenting on his ping to sydney. If you look at the MTR test it shows a ~40ms ping from his router to the ISP he is with. Previously this used to be far, far lower.

I used to have 5ms ping to Christchurch... Now it is above 22 all the time.

your tracert in the first post, was to googles servers, in sydney.

still sounds like DLM profile changes..

vdsl isnt a product inwhich you should expect to always get the lowest pings, because of how DLM works on vdsl lines.

ild recommend may setting up a second adsl connection, interleavings off and use that for only gaming.

Your MTR results were to Sydney.

As for why it's gone from the 5 -> 22ms to Chch I've already explained that above. DLM has in all likelihood moved you from 1ms to 8ms interleaving.

The 40ms is to Mayoral Drive in Auckland. This would have been around 14ms - 16ms less with 1ms interleaving rather than 8ms interleaving.

Lets go back to basics... what model do you have? Post a screenshot of a line stats in the modem admin ui.

Most modems show what DLM profile it's currently using somewhere if not in their UI it's accessible via CLI.

most modems show what bandplan your on, but not the DLM profile directly, but the values that make up a DLM profile...

I changed my modem to a new one, and gave it a few days to see if it has improved.

are you testing while downloading?

your speedtest infers its possible. if so try again with a clean connection.

since you have changed modems, post line stats.

doesnt sound right at all, i suspect you will find something is saturating your downlink.

If your copper line cannot deliver the performance you need, then investigate a business fiber connection with a SLA that you can hold the provider to account if it fails to deliver. ADSL and VDSL are best effort services, and as the copper in the ground is being pushed to far higher frequancies than it was ever planned for, crosstalk and service deterioration is normal as more connections come online on adjacent pairs in the cable bundles.

I get 19-21megabit downstream on VDSL, when there is a powercut and almost all the other connections are offline, I get 38-40 downstream and the CNR on the upstream goes up massively. Nature of the beast. I pay a small price each month for a best effort data service which has proven to be very reliable and stable, if I was operating something that was mission critical I would move it to a location with a business grade internet connection or put up with the degridations and slower performance.
