Prior to upgrading to VDSL, my connection was actually much more reliable.  (i'm not running windows 7 or 8)

Yesterday I had to power cycle my modem 4 times because of this.  Happens much more often when it rains. Based on that, I would think more likely it's a wiring issue, but because it's the the Internet light turning red instead of the broadband light turning off, they don't think so.

They are going to try sending me a new modem.  (but they once again, sent it to the wrong address - frustrating)

New modem arrived and have had it drop internet connectivity a couple times, but the great news is that unlike with the old modem, the Huawei seems to recover without me needing to power cycle it.

The Huawei modem is actually pretty good in my experience so far - I really don't 'push' it but the HG659b and HG630b work pretty good and the HG659b 5Ghz wifi signal is as good as the Airport Extreme 802.11ac base station that it replaced. What it lacks in fancy features it makes up in 'getting the job done'.
