Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation
quickymart: I had to pay the VDSL installation fee. But the Chorus tech also redid some of the phone cabling in my house and installed new cables where required. So I consider it money well spent. And my broadband is much faster now :)
tardtasticx: I'm amazed at the amount of people who don't even read the very small first post.
Also surprised OP didn't get free install. About 6 months ago I think, our 2Wire ADSL2+ modem broke. Telecom wouldn't fix it as it was 3 years old and we didn't want to buy a new one. Asked about VDSL, and they signed us up on a 12 month contract where we got free install (Though we already had a filter installed) and a free modem.
Since you've now signed with Vodafone, I guess it's pointless telling you to speak to Telecoms Sales team/Retention team.
