Behodar: Don't forget the Okta Touch; "one of the best smartphones" at the time :)

Another mobile I owned, it was this or the Okta Boss... went for this instead, Resistive plastic screen made typing no fun!

Was also my first experience flashing, I soft bricked it by flashing in a Windows VM on MacOS....

Thought I was pretty slick with a touch screen phone though...

I remember reading a post from several years ago where someone had flashed a Sprint ROM on there because Telecom's ROM was limited to an older version of the OS. Apparently a Telecom employee saw the Sprint logo at bootup and almost had a breakdown

Haha. I spent many a day tweaking/flashing various ROMs on my OKTA Touch. Was always touch and go if it would boot, but it sure was fun.

Funny thing about the Okta Touch - work done at Massey to port Linux to that device contributed towards the creation of HaRET (Handheld Reverse Engineering Tool), which extended the lifespan of many Windows Mobile devices by allowing them to boot into Android. Even more significantly, that led to the enormous development space for the glorious HTC HD2, which boots nearly anything you throw at it - It's still my all-time favourite phone. If it wasn't for the Okta Touch and those folks at Massey, a huge international crew of homebrew software developers may never have gotten started. :)

I was a big fan of the Okta Touch's QWERTY-toting cousin, the HTC Titan, which I scored for ~$100 off of TradeMe back in the glory days of the TelstraClear CDMA MVNO plans:

Scroll wheel, soft-touch keyboard, extending stylus, and a glorious form factor, the Titan was a lovely thing. Snapping out the spring-loaded keyboard was enormously satisfying (Especially when it triggered Transformers sound effects). I'm the huge phone nerd I am today entirely thanks to being thrown in the deep end of Windows Mobile custom ROMs via the Titan and the Apache before it.

The only mobile I've ever had. My partner gave it to me to use as an alarm clock.

I have to keep it plugged into the mains all the time as it's always vainly trying to find the defunct CDMA network (and draining the battery in doing so).

Not sure it deserves the title of favourite, but I guess it was at the time!

I never had the Harrier, but did have its GSM twin, the Blue Angel - which had WiFi, woop! Family member who worked for Telecom at the time recalled staff throwing a wobbly over the Apache and wanting the Harrier back.

Still amused by sliding the keyboard down halfway so it looks like it's smiling.

I remember two particular CDMA phones.

A blue samsung phone 2004-5 ish
The only issue I had with this phone was that you had to memorise the number for sending text messages otherwise it was a sturdy phone.

HTC Apache 2006
Battery life was so useless they gave you two batteries but you could not charge the second one before the one charging was charged so I had a dock at work that it was left on when at my desk.
Was a great smart phone for the day sold it when I went on my OE as it was useless in Europe.

Ahhh who could forget the Samsung flip! My fav too closely followed by the Nokia 3205.

I know a song that gets on everyone's nerves!

While we're going down memory lane, what was "Motorola Cellular Services" (I think that was the name)? My dad used to get his monthly bill from Motorola, not Telecom. Was Motorola simply reselling Telecom service or was there more to it?

This was back in the days where the phone switched over to roaming when you went too far from home within NZ!
