it is very borderline. í'd say keep ringing there will be one CSR that might give the house a go. no harm trying random people. they might say no sorry, but nothing to lose IMO

for example, my house on chorus website - no VDSL on telecom one CSR says no VDSL another CSR says yup should be fine, we got VDSL.

but yes our speeds are slowish, so ADSL was 15/.9 Mbps (bits not bytes), VDSL is 17/3.7 - you won't get 50/10

Peter said on the last page that it was good to go for VDSL, but that was a few months ago and they never got around to calling Spark at the time. The line is very bad right now (about 9/.7) and upgrading to VDSL would save the $200 master filter install fee.

I'm guessing that the line must be travelling the wrong way to start with as above for it to cut off in the middle of the street, also the CSR looked at the test results Peter did previously but said no still when they contacted via web chat.

Well,
Master filter was installed today, old versus new stats:
Downstream Rate: 10000->15000
Downstream Attenuation: 20dB->21dB
Actual PSD: 18.4dB->17.0dB

Chorus guy said, we should either be 700m connected to exchange, or 300m to a nearby cabinet. Cabinet is marked MHL G and I can't actually find it on here: http://gis.geek.nz/infrastructure.html#chorus_cabinets_future or on the existing cabinet distribution list.

He has no idea how we can be out of range for VDSL. He also said we could just wait a few months for new longer range VDSL and get that.

now that is interesting to hear.

As for distance, you would probably skim by.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

have you not seen Sbiddle's posts brefily mention this before?

chorus are looking to and probably will change their standard as the world has gone the other way and they dont want to end up as orphans with their tech.

should allow higher upload speeds, longer distance and potentially higher downloads

no, i wasnt aware chorus would actually be looking to alter the distance restrictions when going to 998.

Can someone clarify where the tech was supposed to place the master splitter, he placed it halfway through the house so it goes: Demarc->Two twisted gray cables->Master Splitter->Cat5e?->Broadband jack
Was it supposed to put in literally at the demarc or is this fine?

Thanks.

as long as its before any jack points its fine.

mine is in the bottom of a wardrobe, about 3 m from the demark point, all my phone jacks/vdsl jack goes from there

Oh yup, thats what I was expecting that it was fine. Although the tech was saying that if we want VDSL later then they'd have to come back and run a new cable from the Demarc though.

Also a manual prequel for VDSL has been requested, will see what happens

So after a lot of googling I think I finally have my answer (although it's not what I want). The three possible paths I saw appear to all be incorrect and instead I have a new path of 1050M approx. This new distance correlates reasonably to my attenuation figure  (20/21).

It appears that the cabinet I could not find on lists (MHL/G) is likely a passive cabinet with a cable length listed at 700M and due to the way the cable is run to this cabinet it thus results in doubling back. As a result the VDSL coverage on Kinsman St stops after the first few houses due to distance, with the exception of the end houses which are fed by the red path instead.

I presume it is fairly unlikely that anything would be done to shorten cable length just for 20 houses frown
Thanks for your input guys.
