Using the built in file explorer you can tap and hold an mp3 and select set as ringtone

Most audio files can be assigned as ringtones which is areal plus. For alert tones stick em in the my documents root. my SMS tone is "Dalek Laser" and ringtone is a custom rock midi I composed.

The built in speaker is tinny sounding but it's much louder (and even physically larger internally) than the Titan or Apache which is what really matters. Video playback is good but the old version of TCPMP I have seems extremly choppy compared to running it my old harrier even though the default Windows player is very fast so there must be a setting.

Amazingly device really and so "hackable" unlike Symbian. WiFi should not really be a problem as the data connection is very swift and stable.

How expensive is the data though? I'm on prepaid at the moment as it offers the best value to me in terms of the ratio between voice calls and text messages sent. That and the fact that my near five year old (dying but still faithful) axim has wifi and it's great to sit on the couch and stream recorded TV from the MCE pc or to browse the internet.

Aside from the lack of the slide-out keyboard, isn't the GSM version of the Touch only half the speed?

Heres some photos taken with the OKTA Touch.

Interesting to note the camera ID in the metadata is VOGU100 (HTC Vogue).

Approx 350KB each:

They are adequate (as a last-resort-backup-camera-because-the-real-one-got-left-at-home), but nothing to write home about...

Quite possibly the result of less than adequate subject matter

Bradbert, you should bow to the Holden, it is higher in the food chain than you yourself.

Anyways, back to our regular programming...

At the request of a user, I just tried installing an old version of Skype mobile I had on my memory card, but it wont even connect.
Downloading latest version now. I have seen reports it does work, but as we know, by the time a handset makes it to New Zealand, it might as well have a totally new model designation...

Download on the go slow.

Okay. Downloaded.
Copying .cab file to the Touch.
Oops pulled cable out.
Start again.
Copying CAB to Touch.
Hmm. Really slow file transfer (other transfers to the Touch have been fast) maybe its raining in Af-Wi-Ca
Success!
Installing.
Success!
Hanging on the connect screen...
Ugh. Soft reset.
Signed in.
Call Skype Test Call service.
Ringing sound works, call connects, but no audio either direction.

Interesting... I've installed Fring and tried placing a call to my Skype account. It connects and I can hear on the Touch but can't hear from the Touch.

I then tried the Notes application, and it recorded sounds ok...

LOL! Perfect subject matter for showing how poor a camera can perform.. Red cars. however I should buy one of those, while I love my "reprogrammed ECU bait car" Primera I miss the space in my holden as my legs get crammed in jap cars..

The pictures are hideously oversaturated and and sharpened, Good news is you can turn the sharpness and colour stauration down and it takes very nice honest pictures with only some noise reductions. Low light perfomance lacks sadly. Good thing I actually took my real camera out this weekend.

My Skype worked perfectly for the test call, of course it's my hack-o-skype.

It does have serious audio clicks though for some reason but  a lot of stuff does on this pda.
