kiwigeek1: i know but it didnt happen.. they didnt ask or check with home owners at all here

and they didnt want to add a fiber join and pipe in rafters to the closet

its ok being behind tv

Im wondering is pos2 also available.. as will need one connection to mysky and another to
go to the 2nd wall port..

The curent Chorus ONT has two ATA voice ports - each one is independent and is designed for two seperate lines - they are not linked.

They do not need any special phones or devices connected to them - they work with conventional phones and wireing.

If its a chorus install - then there would have been a consultation with the end customer as to where the ONT was to be installed - This would have been confirmed again with the End Customer when they signed a 'consent to install document' - this is a requirement of Chorus.

If there was never a consent document signed or it states that the ONT will be in another location - then you can go back to Chorus, via your RSP, and get the ONT moved to the correct location

If the Consent Document was signed and it state the current location of the ONT as the one aggreed too - then they will have to pay for it to be moved.

That hardly ever happens from reading threads on here, and while it may be a "requirement" i dont think many of the contractors know or follow this.

kiwigeek1: it would help if there was a diagram for typical phone setup with the back of ONT etc

but couldnt find anything or info regarding what phones can be connected and extra devices can use

I know this isn't really what is being asked, but why are there two switches in the study and none in the cabinet? Why don't you have your switch or switches up in the cabinet and connect everything, including the study computers, to it in the cabinet? If the switch is gigabit, you won't get any improvement in performance by having the computers in the study closer to the switch, so unless your wiring is giving you problems, that is what I would do.

Let us know how you get on, kiwigeek1, and if you still have problems please put up some pictures and diagrams if you can - they really would help a lot.

once the fiber is in the road and sealed they dont like to dig up and relocate it.. so know they didnt asked

sure the guys come to install cable from road to house.. but they are limited to distance
(road meaning to the end point they added to fence line)

so they couldnt make go to garage other side and choose behind tv as best spot

from what has been said the phone install shoul dbe simple them..

mysky to pos1 and rest of house via pos1 via the distrubition cabinet

yes I saw that diagram.. its hardly good is it.. dont show sparks ONT it dont list pos1 and 2

in fact shows many lines from ont going to phones.

so I guessing pos1/2 can be used with special phones like voip type some even have video
like the banks use?

its good they have regular phones support.. dont they have a certain voltage/current to drive
phones though.. must be a limit.. didnt phones use 50volts dc

spark doesn't have an ONT, because an ISP doesnt own the ONT, the fiber company does. its shows Chorus's ONT, if you are in a non chorus area then they might supply a different ONT, but it should still have a POT's port on it.

you setup is like the first one, except your ONT is in the lounge which back feeds to the "home distributor", which sends signals to the computer room where the router is. in the diagram the RGW provides the voice, but in your case its done from the ONT, so ignore the back feed from the RGW.

you a splitter behind the tv to split the phone line off for sky and feed it back to the "home distributor", then from there feed it to the rest of the phone jacks in the house.

the way the ONT is setup for phone lines, there is no real difference to plugging your phone into the wall jack before you had fibre, if it worked before you had fibre it will work after (pretty much), the fancy VOIP phones you talk about are slightly different, and i dont believe they will work via the ONT

so a tech will have to come and do it and test it..

think need a adapter from smaller phone RJ plug to RJ45.. think have a couple here

I prob do the patching side of it when they are here

The RJ11 should plug into pretty much any standard phone that you have around your house. If you look in the Huawei Router box supplied by Spark there is a RJ11 to RJ11 used for xDSL. That works perfectly plugging a phone into the POTS1 port on the Chorus ONT.

You should then have a dial tone either when you dial a number it will ring the real world, or it will play a message saying "welcome to the test line"

Then you can wire that up around your house, and get Spark to run a order to get the POTS cut across to VoF. Then you won't even need a tech to visit and re-wire as you would have done it yourself.

I think its POT1 and 2 not pos? as well..

yes we have converters for RJ11 to RJ45 wall sockets

we have a TLDM with 2 wires from street going to it.. and it splits of to like 5 phones
from the patch panel.

what will need to happen is the 2 wires coming back from POT1 need to be wired into
the TLDM input .. its a block with screws
