I rang Spark on early on Saturday morning (well, around 8:30am, but it seemed early because I had been up until after 2:00am upgrading to Windows 10) and spoke to a very helpful woman named Jo, who sounded like a New Zealander, which was a surprise, and made me feel like an individual and a valued customer rather than another statistic to get through on-script with the shortest call time possible.  Maybe I called the wrong number and got the wrong call centre but I was very impressed - thank you Jo!

I don't understand why people sound so cynical when they speak to someone who "sounds like a New Zealander". Spark employs hundreds of call centre staff in Auckland, Hamilton and Christchurch, as well as many agents who work from their homes all over the country - we even have vacancies at the moment if you're interested - https://careers.sparknz.co.nz/jobdetails/ajid/YSjo7/Customer-Service-Representative-Agents-Home,5325.html

Spark's General 123 and New & Move call centre hours are in line with most other service providers including banks, insurance companies, power companies etc, so I am not sure why Spark is being singled out on this. We still provide 24 hour phone support for faults and broadband helpdesk issues.

I regularly want to call this or that company at night for a general enquiry and can't get hold of them - it's just the way of the world these days.

Oh and by the way, most call centres are as culturally diverse as the country we live in. Your friendly call centre operator may sound Korean, Indian, Polynesian, middle-eastern etc, but that does not preclude them from working in an office (or indeed a home office) in a town near you!
