BarTender:
When you click the YouTube redirector info link
http://redirector.c.youtube.com/report_mapping
What does that give you?
Post after the => ie:
=> tnz-xxxx (x.x.x.x/x)
=> tnz-akl3 (125.239.176.0/21)
tnz-akl3 (222.155.64.0/21)
seems to be ok at the moment
I've been experiencing buffering on Youtube as well over the last couple of days. I'm also with Spark and have UFB.
Thank god I checked on here. My youtube streaming has been bloody awful since probably early to mid week. I went to the trouble of moving all my devices off my Netgear wireless router direct to the Spark VDSL router to ensure it wasn't that. Turns out it's not. So it appears most of us are Spark customers. Can we assume there's a DNS and or routing problem with youtube? Has anyone logged a call with Spark yet?
given 2 members that have replied work for spark and one has said he would look into it when hes back at a computer there is no real point at the moment
I am also having buffering issues on YouTube especially since last week. I reported the issue to support and they checked the hardware verifying it as OK.
I reported in the hope that enough others would also as I guess their responses may be based on how many are experiencing issues.
Regards, John.
I've been experiencing this myself as well and have raised a ticket with Google. At this stage there's nothing on our network that would indicate a problem - Google traffic volumes look absolutely normal and other services don't appear to be impacted. I'll report back what I can. If anyone else is experiencing issues with Youtube playback, it would be useful if you could respond here with...
Brief description of the problem (All youtube videos buffer, none can sustain high bitrates etc)
IP address (first 3 octets would be ok - ie 122.62.23.x)
Whether it's a Static IP address or not
The output from http://redirector.c.youtube.com/report_mapping (Yes if you have a static this might look a bit odd - please do it anyway)
What time of day you see the issues, and if it's always/usually ok at other times of day
Whether any other services (streaming services or anything else really) are impacted when you notice the Youtube impact
A speedtest run using www.speedtest.net and navigate to the Spark NZ Auckland, Wellington or Chch server only. Not the one linked from our website - the one you can get to going to speedtest.net.
Whether your connection is ADSL/VDSL/Fibre and the sync rates if it's ADSL or VDSL.
I know it sounds like a lot, but It may very well be that getting this sort of detailed info from a few people around the country could help us zero in on something because it's not anything obvious!

I have had problems this morning when streaming from the Berlin Philharmonic Digital Concert Hall. I have subscribed to this for nearly 2 years and watch the Sat night concerts live here on Sunday mornings. This morning for the first time since I have had UFB (Spark - 100/20) the stream kept freezing and I was only able to watch without a problem by changing the settings in the concert hall app (on my SamsungTV) from HD to SD then streaming OK. Tried streaming to my laptop and exactly the same issue. Also changed the server in the settings from automatic to Sydney although I am sure that the automatic setting normally uses Sydney anyway.
So although not youtube my streaming experience with UFB and Spark was not as it always has been for some reason. Usual speed tests (speedtest.net)all checked out as normal for both NZ servers, Australian servers and Berlin.
I just did a test. I am on VDSL, no static IP.
125.237.90.XXX => tnz-akl3 (125.237.88.0/21)
https://youtu.be/WGND1BBoU90 (1080p)
https://youtu.be/7ZLw4YdlHO4 (720p)
https://youtu.be/LEWsw1866n8 (1080p)
All videos played fine with no buffering.
I can't do speedtest with a Spark server as I don't have flash installed.
Desciption: Sometimes youtube videos buffer, cannot sustain even very low bitrates, those that buffered before can transform to ok, and those ok can transform to buffering++ (again, lowD to SD to HD to 4K makes no difference to the chances)
IP address (115.188.255.xxx)
Static IP? NO
The output from http://redirector.c.youtube.com/report_mapping (=> tnz-dud1 (115.188.248.0/21)
What time of day you see the issues - all times of the day
Whether any other services (streaming services or anything else really) NO
A speedtest run using www.speedtest.net and navigate to the Spark NZ Auckland, Wellington or Chch server only. 8ms 685Mbps/485Mbps
Whether your connection is ADSL/VDSL/Fibre and the sync rates if it's ADSL or VDSL. FIBRE
granted there is no spark server though :)
